hello,
im from german, and my english is not so good. sry for that...
i have a problem with the rsync from suse 10.1 to the nas.
rsync runs in the night and on morning both LEDs are red and the nas are not reachable over the the network. looks like samba crashed...
over telnet the nas are reachable. restart samba with smb restart dosnt work...
on dns323 installed:
firmware version: 1.05
kernek: 2.6.12.6-arm1
funplug version: 0.4
rsync version: 2.6.9
on server installed:
suse: 10.1
kernel: 2.6.16.21-0.25-smp
rsync version 2.6.6
have every one a idea, why the dns323 hang on when i rsync the server?
thx and have a nice day
best regards csab

I suppose, you're using rsync to copy to a smb/cifs-mounted directory. If samba dies, it's a firmware problem and you should report that to dlink. To work around the problem, you might want to try using an rsync- or nfs-server on your nas. That way, samba won't be involved.

I don't see how this might kill samba, except maybe through the OOM-killer. You might want to check output of dmesg or /var/log/messages for out-of-memory errors.
