Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

chroot'ing etch

Hi Folks,

Sorry for this dumb question, but I would just like to fully understand chroot'ing...

I have currently installed and now running ssh, transmission+clutch, lighttpd and telnet on my dns-323. If I chroot etch on my NAS and decide to run ssh, lighttpd and some bittorrent client on etch, does that mean that I will be running 2 services (fun_plug package and one in etch)? Or once I setup properly my chroot'ed etch, I can just run these services from it, and no longer startup the fun_plug packages?

Again, sorry if this question is too dumb... I'm just not quite sure how these things work. smile

Re: chroot'ing etch

Chrooted etch is just another process that you can run next to the already running other processes. Within chrooted etch you have the possibility to start new processes as well. It's your choice where you want to start a process (via ffp or via etch). Be aware that ffp packages do not work in chrooted etch environment and that you have to 'apt-get install' applications in your etch environment. Try google for more information about chrooting and just start to experiment. At least, that's how I learned more about chrooting...
