Beginner requires help, please. a few questions: Take your pick :)

Hello, and thank you for all of your time and effort with these hacks!

I just setup my DNS 323 2 days ago, so PLEASE bare with me!  This is all new to me, i used telnet for the first time in my life last night.  And have no real experience with unix etc...  I thought i would just throw up my main questions, i could not find via the wiki or searching here.  I'm sure they are simple to most of you anyways.

First, i am using a Mac Leopard 10.5.4.  Raid 1, with seagate 500gb drives. 0.5 Firmware.  As it stands, everything below is meant to be used via wifi or remotely over the internet.

I successfully installed the fun plug (0.5), ftp is setup fine.  Was blocked from dyndns, so i setup ezipupdater (i think its setup ok, but boy did it take me forever how to edit the conf file bwahahahaha).  *This is the extent of my experience with telnet and unix smile  I apologize ahead of time.  I have read some threads generally touching on my issues, but they are way over my head.  I have NO clue what/how to chroot.  I just learned how to 'kind of' use the fun plug, so going this route would be best please.

1.  I installed firefly, with help of all the threads etc.  It successfully scans all music on the drive (just using 30 or so to test), and states how many are on disk.  Start up itunes, and it does find the share, no problems.  When i try to play a song, no luck.  It is pretty random, maybe 2 of the 30 songs will play.  As i click on all the songs, they 'load', but dont play, and i can see in the firefly webpage that it is currently serving the songs i click (number increases, the more songs i click).  I have also experienced this with the built in itunes server.  When i click on the music, it loads, but wont play (minus a few songs).  To test that my network works fine etc... i created an itunes library on the share, and it plays fine.  How can i rectify this?

2.  When i get firefly setup, how can i setup a way to stream music over the internet, through a browser window?  I am going to be storing my itunes library on it (20,000 songs), and will have my library files (xml and database) files stored on it - for use when home.  I am assuming that streaming over the internet via a browser would be more effective when not using wireless N speeds and being capped at 100kb/s uploads.

3.  Does AFP have any speed difference from SMB shares?  I have SMB working fine on my home network.

4.  Setting up SMB access from outside.  cmd k in finder, and i type smb://<ip>/name of volume/volume_1  is that correct?  I forwarded some ports, but i am thinking they were the incorrect ones, 139, and 445?

5.  What kind of speeds are you getting wired via ethernet?  I'm doing about 13MB/s which seems pretty good, just seeing if i should be expecting more (all gigabit)?

I think that should get me by for now.  Thank you all for your help and time reading all this.  I'm certian i will have more questions down the road, so i apologize in advance.

I am able to use firefly without any problems to play mp3, ogg and flac files with my Pinnacle Sounbridge player, I have downloaded firefly from this thread: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1897-Fire … ac%29.html (this one has an optimised version for ogg decoding)
While serving the songs you can check with 'top' via Telnet/SSH if the mt-daapd process is still running fine (cpu load should remain about the same value). Next thing to try would be re-installation of I-tunes.

Hardware: Conceptronic CH3SNAS, FW1.03 - 2x Samsung Spinpoint F1 750 MB, no RAID  - Imation Whizz 4GB USB Flash Drive
Software:  Fun_plug 0.5 beta, SSH, Samba recycle bin, Firefly, hellanzb, nzbget, cleanboot, chrooted etch, optware, midnight commander, rsnapshot

Thank you for your response!  I downloaded the firefly from that link as well, well the link within that thread.  I just did the TOP command, and shows the mt-daapd process is running without issue.  I'm getting better at this stuff, just got transmission/clutch running (makes it much easier when people outline everything hahahah).

I just downloaded the iTunes update, so will give it a shot.

Ok, Itunes streams most of my songs from fire fly, so I have worked out that issue.  Regarding the SMB issue (for anyone that may stumble on this thread), i had to setup my work group, in network pref., win tab.
