I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on getting the FTP backup function to actually backup my entire dedicated web server [not just a single web account]. I try to set the URL as my IP and login as root. I can login using account usernames but can seem to login using the root & password. Does it have something to do with it not being SFTP? Anyways around this?
"Test result: Failure
Please verify the URL,DNS settings, and your account settings."

Hmm must be totally blind here; but where do you find this option to config DNS-323 to perform backup via ftp of external content? I'm using the 1.02 EU firmware.

Instead of logging in using the "Config" option, use "Download Schedule" and you'll be there. I've only used it to make backups from HDD_1 to HDD_2 so I cannot answer to the original question, but I suggest that you first try with an dedicated FTP client, it's not common practice to ftp as root.

Aha! I so totally missed out the Schedule Downloads on the front admin page.

Any suggestions then to backup my entire machine remotely with the 323 if their software is mostly for small FTP accounts?

It's not necessary to install debian for rsync. Just download the rsync binary: http://download.dns323.info/
It's also possible to make incremental backups: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/p1685-2007 … html#p1685
You need an up-to-date version of busybox (which supports "cp -l"), fonz compiled one (1.4.1 with history and tab completion :-)
Look for the website in his profile.
