printing via LPD on the DNS-323

the only way i've got printing to work form my powerbook is through the samba server.  but my prefered method is LPD which is running and i believe is what samba relies on.

is there a way to print directly through this daemon?  my attempts from my powerbook have failed.

Re: printing via LPD on the DNS-323

i still got mine NOT working because:

you can only select a limited amout of drivers for the samba printing thing. And all my print drivers (Canon Selphy, HP Photosmart 7960) Don't show up in the list.

Also, my DNS disconnects after time from my mac. (wirelessly connected)....

Don't have a printer connected to my DNS, but I don't see a reason why printing through lpd shouldn't be possible. lpd is running (LPRng-3.8.10) and listening on the default port 515. Try telnet'ting port 515 to see if it accepts connections.

If it does, you need to check the config files. Maybe you just need to adjust permissions in /etc/lpd.perms (e.g. add "DEFAULT ACCEPT"). You will need telnet access for this. Tools to diagnose and test are in /sys/crfs/LPRng/: lpc, lpq, lpr. The LPRng documentation can be found here: http://www.lprng.com/LPRng-Reference/LP … rence.html (see especially the TUTORIAL config).

Good luck.
