I am considering getting this DNS-323 unit as a file server for the office because of it's RAID 1 capability.
We have about 15 users accessing small files (excel, word,...) off of a single samba shared drive on an old IBM Pentium III server.

1. Will the DNS-323 have enough power/speed to serve 15 users?
2. Will it be faster than my P3 server?
3. Should I consider getting a raid sata card for my P3 server instead?
4. will accents on filename be recognized on the DNS-323 (french accents éïçèêû...)?

No one here is using the DNS-323 in a small office?
I need to know if it is reliable and fast enough for multiple users.

i have had some issues with accents in filenames over SMB, although from what i've read this can be overcome by changing the configuration of some samba clients. i don't know how nicely this will work in a windows environment as i don't know that you have a lot of control with how windows connects to SMB shares.

Accents worked okay using Windows XP and the normal explorer renaming function.

See attached screenshot for an example using your given string of accented letters.

For single large files:
Read speed: ~15MB
Write speed: ~5-10MB (could only test by copying large files to it)

(RAID1 (mirror) configuration with two 500GB/7200/16mb Samsung drives)

Small files will be tested next, but I only have 3 hosts here, so I can't really test concurrent access speeds with 15 or more users.

Maybe consider doing a RAID0 (striping) for maximum performance BUT a nightly backup somewhere safe (RAID0 means if one drive fails everything is lost, keep that in mind)

I just get DNS-323 for my office.
We have 8 ppls in the office using DNS-323 as file server instead our old P-II server.
So far, if I use user/password control the access, the speed is kind slow(user will notice we change the server).
If I just allow all account to access the folder(which means no password protect), the speed is ok(user won't notice we change the server).
I am still testing it and try to figure a solution to get the speed up and still have passowrd protection.

I got my DNS-323 now. Very slick device and easy to configure
I wasn't using password protected folders before, so I think I wont with this NAS.
