Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I think that the download folder is OK - after all transmission 1.22 wrote it's downloads there OK.

I tried from the console and managed to get it downloading.

When i go back to the transmission.sh and try it seems OK when it starts as the log below shows - serving the right clutch pages and finds the blocklist OK but it still won't right to my download folder.

Transmission 1.32 (6464) started
Port Forwarding: Opened port 51413 to listen for incoming peer connections
Blocklist "level1.bin" updated with 219943 entries
Blocklist "level1.bin" contains 219943 entries
Serving the web interface files from "/ffp/share/transmission/web"
Loaded 1 torrents
torrent name here: Got 29 peers from tracker
Blocklist "level1.bin" contains 219943 entries

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

The fact that it works fine when you run as root shows that there's nothing wrong with Transmission. Posting on their forums won't bring you much help.
Are these normal torrents, nothing with exotic letters (chinese, japanese, etc.)?

One last thing you could test: Rename the current "downloads" folder to something else, then re-create with the command

Code:

su nobody -c "mkdir downloads"

I must confess, I don't run my Transmission as user "nobody", but as another user I created with the NAS' web interface. Both Transmission's config folder as well as the download directory are owned by this user, and this has worked for me from day 1. Since I'm the only user allowed to delete/move downloaded stuff, it works out fine. Maybe that's an option for you as well.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Unfortunately, the ability to add or remove trackers is currently only available in the GTK and Mac client. Maybe I should remove it from the first post. It should not be too hard to implement it though in the daemon as well, the devs just haven't gotten around to it.

Regarding the turtle icon: Since I'm not a Transmission developer, I can't do anything about this, you have to ask at the Transmission forums. I can tell you though that others have requested this as well but if I remember correctly the devs won't add it back in for some reason.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi guys

I'm currently running 1.31 and I'm struggling to configure different dirs for completed and incomplete files. I am also running the mac version, but the plist file looks very different than the settings.json for transmission-deamon.

Any ideas?

cheers

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

The daemon does not have an option for complete/incomplete folders. You can only specify a download folder which will contain downloading and finished files.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Thanks KyleK - I had 1.32 up and running in 5 minutes. Damn it's a nice web interface!

I'm sorry to post this question, but I'm having an issue with speed. I normally use uTorrent and regularly achieve speeds > 300Kb/s, but so far I haven't seen anything greater >50Kb/s with Transmission.

I definitely have the peer-to-peer port open and forwarded and I'm downloading ... popular... torrents.

One thing I have noticed is that it never downloads from that many peers, often only 1 or 2 out of a large pool - whereas uTorrent usually uses 10 or so.

Is this just a case of different clients working differently, or is there something else I can try? (I checked out the FAQ on the Tramission site, but aside from the obvious things, there were no suggestions).

Thanks & regards

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

With well-seeded torrents, Transmission should achieve the same kind of speeds as any other client.
What Transmission mainly lacks is DHT support, and as a result, your client might not "see" as many peers as are available. That could theoretically result in lower download speeds.

uTorrent has an option to test the selected port (if it's open). You can use the same URL and test your Transmission port.

When people mention speed problems, I always suggest to download a really well-seeded torrent like the current Ubunut Live-CD or OpenOffice. If you get good speeds with those, then the everything's fine and the missing DHT is probably why you see lower speeds.

Also note that the NAS does only have 64MB of RAM, which means there's not a lot of caching going on. With many torrents, the hard drive is constantly reading and writing stuff (uTorrent refers to it as disk trashing). I suggest to limit the number of concurrent downloads to maybe 3 when using Transmission.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Thanks Kylek for your hard work.

I have a question though.  In v1.22, I was able to start/stop all torrents using "transmission-remote -s all" (or transmission -S all) command.  It seems this is no longer possible in v1.32, it says I've to use -t to get torrent first.  I used to use the "-s all" option in a simple script to start/stop all my current torrents.  How can I achieve this in v1.33?

Thanks.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

great job on packaging it for dns-323. It's working fine.

In the transmission forums they're talking about the watch folder and stuff like that. Is it available in (dns-323) deamon mode? I really need to have torrent files a put in de specific dir to be picked up automatically, just like nzb does with nzb files..

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

@wlgspotter You can start or stop all torrents by using the command "transmission-remote -t all -S".

@Opperpanter Watch folder functionality is not available for the Transmission daemon. I intend to integrate that feature into Automatic, but haven't done so yet.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Updated to v1.33. The devs fixed some minor memory leaks and crash problems with malformed torrents.
This version doesn't require libintl anymore so you can savely uninstall that package if you like.

As always, updated links in the first post.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Ok, cool. Btw, I noticed that the  Transmission-1.33-ffp0.5.tgz is missing /ffp/start directory. But I guess if I first install 1.32, and after that 1.33 over it, everything works ok smile

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

You're right, I forgot to include it. The startup script didn't change though, so you can use the one from Transmission 1.32.
I also updated the archive to include the file.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi KyleK

I managed to get 1.32 working the other day - ended up re-installing funplug so not sure what was wrong ??

Anyway the reason for the post is that after upgrading Ok to the new 1.33 (thanks for the quick update by the way) when I use the startup script I get a message on the screen

mkdir: cannot create directory '/mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon': File exists

Is there something wrong in the script where it checks if the .transmission-daemon directory exists?

Cheers

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

There's a small error in the startup script, but it would only effect users that hadn't installed any of the previous versions before, so it's not that much of a problem.

I updated the file in the Transmission 1.33 archive in the first post.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi, I think I managed to install both Clutch and Transmission OK. Clutch is launching from my browser, transmission is running.
However, just after a download starts, clutch shows the error "Permission denied"...I read in the old thread that this is relating to setting the download folder.
I have created a folder "MyBTDownloads" under /mnt/HD_a2/ and the permission is as follow:

drwxr-xr-x    2 nobody   501          4096 Sep  1 22:09 MyBTDownloads

No luck still getting "Permission Denied" being shown in clutch.

Any idea?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Is this with every torrent? It might be a tracker response because you're not to download that particular torrent.
Also make sure that Transmissions config folder is owned by nobody as well (/mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon)

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

In my opinion I've tried everything as said in this threat, butt I still get the error "destination folder doesn't exist" and I really don't know what else to do!

I've created a folder mnt/HD_a2/downloads. (I can see this folder directly on my Volume_1)
With the comment # chown -R nobody:501 /mnt/HD_a2/downloads I make it owned by nobody

In the webgui => Preferences => Download to: "/downloads"
I've also set the download folder with the comment # transmission-daemon -w /mnt/HD_a2/downloads

Does anybody have any clue?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I've never dealt much with the "nobody" user, so I can't really provide support for it hmm
You can try and replace "nobody" in the startup script with a username of your choice (even 'root').
Note that you will have to change ownership for the config and download folders as well:

Code:

chown -R <user>:<group> /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon
chown -R <user>:<group> /mnt/HD_a2/downloads

Stop Transmission before doing this, of course.

Yeah - the "Permission Denied" error happen to every torrent. What i can observed on Clutch for every torrent is that it will start with 1 or 2 clients and when the download started to ramp up it stopped and present the "Permission Denied" error.

Anything else to check? Thanks in advance.
