I installed latest ffp and ran e2fsck, and my disks were completely full of errors (many 100s).
As it happens, this is not a problem - I'm installing new 1Tb drives to replace the old 500Gb drives, but I am worried that there were any errors at all.
How can I schedule frequent e2fscks to automatically check the system say every week?

Good luck. You will need to make sure there is nothing using the drives and will have to unmount them, then you will have to run e2fsck, the re-mount the drives and start-up all services that were using them. Utilizing the ramdisk and / or the USB drive dor this is probably your best bet.

I think what I may do is to run it at a quiesced time, say 01:00, with -n and grep the output for any error and send an email if anything shows up so that I can do a full off-line check subsequently.
What I'm really after is a heads-up before it gets into the state the last set of disks did.
I'm rather puzzelled by this - the DNS is on a nice big APC UPS, so has clean power, and its never been messed around with, though it has filled up a couple of times. I'm wondering if it filling up during some Acronis sessions has upset it in some way - it really was in a bad state.

Shutdowns are one of the ways this happens. The DNS does not properly unmount the drives for shutdown.
