I messed up...Please help

Hi guys~

First of all.... thanks for reading my post.

I jsut installed fun_plug 0.5 to my DNS-323 FW1.05.

Well, Everything looks O.K. I can connect it by ssh and website is running on lighttpd.

While I am playing with user account, I deleted 502, nobody.

Now, I have a problem. I add user gyro73 and can login using putty.
But I can't connect gyro73 by ftp. It recognize user but password is not working.

More serious problem is that windows cannot connet to Volume_1. Error message is about 'smb problem'.

What can I do....?

I set directory (HD_a2 and its sub-directory) permission to 777.

Do you have any error messages? What does it say exactly? /var/log/messages, /mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug.log

This is probably a samba misconfiguration. You have to check the file /etc/smb.conf and add correct values to it. I did not do it with my DNS-323 yet, but there are many examples in the forum.

Re: I messed up...Please help

gryo73, the user accounts (/etc/passwd file) is copied from flash memory to hard drive
on each reboot.  So, if you have not saved your changes to the flash memory, you can
reboot your DNS-323 and you will have the original /etc/passwd file (with user nobody)

Re: I messed up...Please help

Thank you so much for your replies.

I got the advice on reboot and interpret 'reboot' as 'reset'.

I reseted my box by pressing the reset button on the back panel.

Problem solved with factory initiation.

Now, I have to reinstall everyting ... but happy since, at least, I know what I should avoid touching.

smile

Thanks again~

Yeah, reboot meant reboot wink

As long as you don't call store-passwd.sh, your data is not saved to flash. So if you do something bad, you just have to _reboot_, not reset. Those are two different things.

But anyways, happy to read that you're back on tracks.
