hi,
I have configure my dns with 2 HDD 500Go on RAID1. The Firmware is 1.0.5
With the firmware 1.03 i had the same transfer rate arround 9~10MB/s
Why i have this difference transfer rate on FTP and smb/cifs protocol??
My mount command is
smbmount //nas/volume_1 /mnt/data/nas/ -o user=hebus,password=xxxx
I obtain this rate with
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/data/nas/LaBierreDuBoisQuiPousse/1go bs=1024 count=1000000
thanks

On fw 1.05 I can do >19MB/sec writes and >24MB/sec reads - so it's not likely to be the NAS - what do you have at the other end of this speed test?

hi
how you can do that. are you in RAID1 config???
how do you do your test transfert???
When i connect directly NAS on my Computer i have a 1,7MB/s with smb/cifs mount
The computer is an acer 5720G

Do your run an on-demand anti-virus software or a firewall on you Acer? That will WAY slow down the transefer. I get consistantly 17-19 MB/s writes with Gbit and no jumbo frames.

hebus - search this forum for NAS tester - it is a little Windows utility that was put together by a forum member that to test the read & write speeds.
When I asked what was at the other end of the test, I wasn't really looking for a brand name - but rather the OS, I suspect you're unix some linux or unix distro and I believe some of them have had results like you describe due to issues wuth SAMBA.

hi thanks for your response
I don't have a firewall or anti-virus on my computer.
And yes i run test in ubuntu OS.
So i download the NAS tester to night and i come back in forum for post the result
thanks

hi,
I have run Nas tester from Vista and the result is arround to 15Mb/s (on Gigabit no jumbo frame RAID1) so the NAS seem not to be involved.
However i don't understand this. I have a lot of Samba serveur in my work and i have never seen this difference between Windows ans Linux.
I think it's a mount (smbmount) option that require for work as well as Windows OS, but when i use an option of this command i think that the NAS ignore it.
I continue to search
thanks

Essentially what you have done is established that whatever problem exists, it exists at the Ubuntu end - and so that is where you need to look - there are other discussions of this nature, not necessarily with Ubuntu, try searching the forum for more dteails.
