I canīt copy large folders or files to dsm-g600 revB

I have two dsm-g600:
one RevA with 1.01 firm.
one RevB with 1.02 firm us.

My problem is with RevB:
When I try to copy large folders (with many files) or large files by wired Network, the revB DSM stop at some moment with an error like this: "Can not copy xxxx.xxx.xxx: The specified network name is no longer available".

1) There is not a defined size, I think that the problem is with the time: how long the copy is, but there is not a defined amount of time too.
2) This problem look like the network port spin down and up a second after, because if I try, immediately, to access it or to copy another files, it works, but If the files or folders are big, it freezes and work again on the nexts seconds.
3) It have a static ip: 192.168.0.2
4) I am using Windows platform with the direct ip to access it (not mapped drive): \\192.168.0.2\Hda_2

I did not undertand why! With revA, I did not have this problem and the copy is normally concluded, do not mattering the how long the copy is.

What can I do ?

Have anybody Some Idea ?

I tried turn off other services like ftp / wireless / ...  And already tried 1.02EU firmware. But the error is the same.

I will be very thankful for any help.

Sorry for my poor english.

Obrigado,
AfterDark,
Brazil.

What can I say, windows is a lazy bastard. Try to map your dsmg drive (with ip address). If its not helping then try to use some alternative software for copying, like total commander or far smile
RevA is working probably because it is very different device with very different hardware and software comparing to RevB.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried this this morning. The problem is the same.
Are there any another configuration to use with samba that can get a better performance for me test ?

Regards.

Re: I canīt copy large folders or files to dsm-g600 revB

Dear sala,
I tried totalcomander 4 times, two with a mapped drive and two by direct ethernet link, and it did not work.
Sometimes stop at 10%, sometimes at 20%, sometimes at 30%.
I tried to copy one file with 3.99GB.
If you have another idea I will be happy to try...

Regards,
AfterDark.

Re: I canīt copy large folders or files to dsm-g600 revB

My router is Wrtp54G, it is with new firmware 1.00.37, but I only use it wired as hub.  Do you use wireless or wired connection ?  maybe is a problem with linksys ?  I will try put another hub in the same position to check...

I am having same exact problem!  I would love to figure this out.  One thing I have found is that anything that errors on my Vista machine does not on my MAC.

Re: I canīt copy large folders or files to dsm-g600 revB

I had this and only solved it when I tried the box at work, it was flawless.

I borrowed a HUB from work, and it was flawless at home.
Turns out my Netgear router, which was fine for internet browsing, was not working properly with big data throughputs.
Borrowed a friends router, worked fine. So bought a new one the same as his.
Problem solved for me.

Hi all, this problem seems like that of fat32 format, that doesn't allow to move files larger than 4gb.
Are you using this filesystem?

I am also facing the same issue as described by "AfterDark". The g600 is wired connected to my linksys 54g. Any solution to solve the problem is appreciated.

It seems that this problem is router/firmware specific, but I (finally) solved my problem with a Linksys WRT54G v3.1 when I installed the DD-WRT custom firmware on it. I don't have any problems with copying from my XP operative with wired connection any more. With my Vista with wireless it glitches a bit from time to time, but as Vista resumes the transfer after a while, when forced to, (that is nice compared to XP that ends the transfer instead) that isn't really any problem for me. One thing is still not working properly though, and that is downloading torrents from my computer straight onto the g600 (borth internal and external drive), but I hope to solve this with installing Salaīs Transmission-package with fun_plug (as soon as a working compilation has been released).

DD-WRT firmware is a (kickass) freeware and can be found here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/

Be sure to read the wiki before installing though, donīt just jump right on it and hit the upgrade-button! There are a few precautionary steps to take before you change the firmware on your router form original to custom...
