Create RAID1 setup, but save data?

Hello,
I just received a new DNS-323 and want to install it. Then I discovered: 'The DNS-323 will format your internal SATA drives before usage'. I do have 2 Samsung spinpoint 71 750 GB, one of them I currently use in a external USB case, the other is unused.

What do I got:
a) 1 New DNS-323
b) 1 Samsung Spinpoint F1, 750 GB, Now in a external USB case with a lot of data, NTFS
c) 1 Samsung Spinpoint F1, 750 GB, New, empty

I want to put both harddisks into my DNS-323, and make it a Raid1 (mirrored) setup. But I want to save my data, now stored at disk b) .

Is it possible to put my new drive into the DNS-323, then to copy all data, and finally put the second harddisk into the DNS-323 and create a RAID1 setup? Or will I loose all my data (disaster!)? Or should I use another way?

Please help,

Uncle D

Re: Create RAID1 setup, but save data?

First - RAID1 does not remove the need to keep a backup - so think about how you plan to accomplish this.
Second - you can if you're using firmware 1.05 - start with a single disk, transfer data to it, and then add a second and create a RAID1 array, provided the second disk is the same size or larger than the first.
