I have set up a ftp user. It works OK when using the command line ftp. Files can be listed etc.
But when using the Internet Explorer it does not work. After logging in noting happens for a while, and then time out. DNS-323, FW 1.04, Vista. Can someone give me a clue!

Internest explorer for FTP access sucks. There is not much more than that to say. A decent free one is Filezilla.

Don't understand this comment. Internet Explorer works fine with other ftp sites, e.g. DLink's own site ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/. So why not with the DNS-323 ftp server?

Internet explorer works okay for anonymous FTP, but it has always been buggy with login access to FTP. Actually in Vista, it is even buggy when transfering large files from/to Samba shares. Next. are you trying to access the FTP using the DNS's IP address or its name? If you have been using its name, try its IP address. There are some bugs also resolving the name of the unit unless you put it in the computer's hosts file. With the internet sites, there is an actual domain name server taking care of this.

After some more experimenting. Internet Explorer (IE) works as long as I use the DNS-323 private IP number (or name). IE dos not work when using the public IP (or name). Port 21 is forwarded to the DNS-323 in my router/firewall. I have tried with normal as well as anonymous ftp account in the DNS-323. The line based ftp works in all cases!
Any clue why IE does not work?
