Accessing by ssh/sftp through internet

I've enabled my dns-323 so that I can access it over the internet. However, I seem to get stucked after entering my username and password. I've already opened and forwarded port 22 on my router's firewall to my dns-323, thus I am able to reach the authentication stage.

Do I need to edit the sshd.config so that I can successfully login using ssh and sftp? I am using Putty to login through ssh and WinSCP for sftp.

Also, just another thing with sftp: how come that whenever I log in using sftp through WinSCP, I am able to see upto the root (/) directory? Is there a way to just "root" sftp users to a particular directory and not be able to go out from that? I am planning to use sftp so that I can share my NAS' content with some friends.

Thanks.
