Re: Midnight commander

Hi everyone,

since I couldn't upload the file to this forum, I have put it onto my webpage. You can download the Midnight Commander 4.1.40-pre9 from here:

http://andreas.welcomes-you.com/project … -ffp05.tgz

However, maybe fonz would like to add this to his packages smile?

Well, no. I never used mc myself, so you're the better maintainer for this package.

Re: Midnight commander

I was just wondering if we could have a central location to provide the packages. At the moment, all the packages, modules (usb-module) etc are distributed all over the internet. Can we provide on this wiki a file repository?

Re: Midnight commander

After happily using mc for a while now, the program recently started to crash when I exit the program (F10-OK) with a segmentation fault and my ssh terminal window freezes. It seems to happen when there is not so much memory available and the swap needs to used. After a restart of my NAS (CH3SNAS) I can use mc without problems for a while, but then suddenly the segmentation fault pops up and will not disappear until I reboot the NAS.

Although I have learned quite a lot about linux the past weeks, I am stillto much noob to solve this myself... and Google couldn't take me a step further.

Any suggestions how to investigate and/or solve this problem are welcome!

Thanx!

Hm, this doesn't sound good. I didn't experienced this behaviour, but I was not using mc for a long time. I will have a look...

Re: Midnight commander

Try optware (http://dns323.kood.org/howto:optware)
There is much more packages than in funplug.
I just installed mc 4.6.1 via ipkg system and running well.
Optware and its ipkg packaging system is like lightweight debian packages - I just write cmd

Code:

ipkg install mc

and nothing more. It download package, check dependencies, download another packages of libs and install all things. Like dpkg -i in Debian.
I installed optware today simultaneously with ffp0.5 and it't working well ;o)

BTW - I had almost same problems with mc-4.1.40-pre9-arm926T.tgz - after some time (after using viewer and editor) mc started to go sloooow down sad

I got the same idea yesterday after another mc crash and problems with another package that's also available under optware! It looks promissing according to your experience and I will certainly try it!

Re: Midnight commander

Myth confirmed! Optware is good and easy!
It took me some time to manually configure it running from my usb flash drive and to get all filesystems cleanly umounted during cleanboot.
Last thing to do is to get the colors back in mc...

Same as me. I have colors in mc only via screen. But I use screen a lot (nearly all time), so no problemo  ;o)

Re: Midnight commander

Strange, no problems here showing my DVD-iso files of 4,7 GB...

Sorry, but I don't have a solution . . .

Re: Midnight commander

Yet another question smile Does MC supports UTF-8 codepage? Cyrillic characters doesn't displayed properly. The PuTTY configured to UTF-8 locale displays cyrillic properly when i do ls command. But MC does not sad I set "display bits" to U-0400 (Unicode Cyrillic) and "Full 8 bits input" but without result...
Sorry for bad English sad

Re: Midnight commander

Hi There!

I use MC from mc-4.1.40 pre9-ffp05
The F buttons doesn't works, so I tried the TERM=xterm command.
It works without error but the screen is very hardly readable.
Look at: www.cirip.net/dns-323/mc.jpg
I cannot use this in this form so   please help me.

Best Regards:

C.
