Hello! I have internet acces via my wirless router. When I connect my DNS-323 directly to my laptop through LAN card internet connection is not working. NAS have a static IP addres (I set it to 192.168.1.32) but I can't acces it directly. Even Easy Search filed to find it. But if I plug it to the router everything is ok, I have access to NAS and my internet connection is working. Why is that?

Are you setting a static ip address on the laptop when it is connected directly to the DNS-323?

Laptop and NAS are in the same local subnet 192.168.1.1-255. IP adres of NAS is as I wrote before and my laptop get the IP adress from router via DHCP. Most cases its 192.168.1.2. Is it bad sollution?

Are you using a crossover cable when you connect directly? The cable you use to connect clients to a router usually won't work for a direct connection.

Good point. I've forgot about that. I use standard cables even when I need crossover becouse my router can change it on-the-fly. But I forgot that NAS can't do it that way... Thanx!

If your laptop is getting it's ip address from the router using DHCP and you disconnect it from the router and connect it directly to the NAS - where does it get the address from ??? So - let me ask again ... are you setting a static ip address on the laptop when it is connected directly to the DNS-323?

This NAS can - it has a gigabit ethernet port, and most GbE ports support auto-mdix. Try it and see for yourself - just check for the link LEDs, if they turn on (at both ends) the cable is NOT your problem.
