Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

So this morning, we could only copy but not save files to the DNS-323. Popup syas there is no permission.
Look over and the unit's activity light is continuosly blinking. Logged in to the admin area and rebooted the unit. Still cannot save files to it and light is still blinking after bootup. Used the power buttont to shutdown the unit and then power it up again. At the moment, read and write seems to work but the activity light is still continuosly blinking. Is this a sign that the unit is going ot die soon? Firmware is stock 1.05, no other plugs in installed. Any ideas here?

Was the unit fully accessible over the internet or over some local unsecure network?
You could try a full reset if the problem persists without a network cable connected

What do you define as the "unit's activity light"?
The front of my DNS-323 has four LEDs, two disk activity lights, a power light (behind the DLink logo) and a network link/activity light.
My suspicion is that you are referring to the network link/activity light - if it is flashing it just means that there is activity on the network.

Fordem, it was indeed the network activity light. The manual calls it just activity light. In any case, it was a false alarm! Not sure what caused the permission issue but it was probably related to one of the virtual machine connecting to it. The VE was shutdown and network activity stopped all together. Luckily the switch has a light showing which networked machines were causing the activity. Thanks all.
