Find a piece of aluminuium foil (no oil or grease), fold it a couple of times to make a shim. The shim I made measured 1inch x 6 inches. I fold the aluminium foil 8 times to make it thicker. Install this aluminium shim between the drive and the TOP rail. Tried to install this shim closer to the front and make sure its not touching the circuit board of the drive.

a helpful hint to install the shim:
With the nas box sitting up, place the shim on the harddrive top. Slide both the drive and the shim into the rail, adjust the shim position as you slide the drive in. Make sure the shim are installed close to the front for easy removal.

Update:
I found the shim works ALOT better when its installed against the TOP Rails. The photo below shows the opposite. The top rail should be shim'd since the top of the hdd seems to vibrate more than the bottom.

Try pushing the drives in, down and to the left. There is a lip on the right that when a drive gets caught on, it will vibrate and make a ton of noise.

I dont found anything like the lip u mention anywhere and the drive can only move left or right 0.5 mm at most. IMO your suggestion doesnt help because the vibration from the drive will cause the noise to come back. My mod is added a "cushion" to the metal to metal contact between the drive and the retaining rails. It works like the engine mount on a vehicle. and it doesnt costs u $.

I understand how it works, I am merely saying that I have 2 units and only one has ever had a vibration. It also happens that it only does it with Seagate drives (so far as I've found) because of their case shape. I was mentioning the fix for that.

Next, I don't thing aluminum foil is a very smart thing to be putting in your DNS. 1, the tray you show block air flow, and 2, it is conductive. Since that rails are open, it is inviting all sorts of bad things.

yes.. u r right, my drives are seagate. they look identical but one vibrate alot more than the other.
