Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hi
I have just bought myself a DNS-323 with WD Green 1TB Hdd and joined this forum - so firstly a hello @all.
I'm nearly a complete noob when it comes to Linux; I'm more at home with Microsoft products - but please don't throw foul vegetables now.
I thought this NAS would be a nice toy to get to know Linux a little bit better. The storage coming with it is a nice bonus :-)
I have installed the fun_plug of fonz (exceptional piece of kit, even the more because it is free) and tried several servers, got USB up and running etc. I'm running the latest firmware from the german dlink-site. 1.5B28
But I'm having issues with telnet and SSH - they both disconnect the session after about 1 minute of inactivity. If I type "top" on a freshly opened session I can see the other sessions are still occupying 8% of memory. Has anybody got an idea why this happens?
The DLNA Server of the 1.5 firmware seems to work quite well. I tested it with my PS3 as client and audio, video and pictures work perfectly. Is there a good reason to switch to twonky?
Thanks in advance
Christian

Hi
I just found out that ffp 0.5 is still beta, so I tried 0.4
The disconnection of the sessions went away, so I guess this has to do with the telnet/ssh servers in 0.5

Interesting, because I have been using one version or another of 0.5 since fonz posted it, and I can let it sit for hours with no problem. Maybe fonz changed something in a newer version...

I don't think it's a general problem. I keep some telnet sessions open for days and weeks. Also, the ssh session I started 10 minutes ago remained open, too. Did you check log files? Which side is terminating the sessions (can you use tcpdump or wireshark?)?

Hello
I was able to do some further testing today and found out this is not SW related, but depends on the Network connection I use.
Wired ethernet is fine, with both version 4 and 5.
But when I use wireless connection this happens. Maybe I described it wrong, the session doesn't actually get disconnected but simply stops working.
I don't really understand why this happens as I never ever have problems with my wireless connection at home...
If you tell me which logfiles you want I can post them. A network sniff is also possible if you still want it.
Cheers
Christian
