What is action of write_hd_info on a "clean" drive setup?

As mentioned, in the thread http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t3175-%22F … e%22.html, my dns-323 keeps trying to get me to reformat my second hard drive.

The files hd_magic_num, raidtab, and raidtab2web are all correct and consistent. The RAID1 array is clean and I haven't physically swapped or removed the hard drives.

I do notice though that the command write_hd_info (which runs on web login) "touches" the following files in /tmp and has retval of 1 (ie $?=1).
/tmp/web_format_dev
/tmp/web_format_dev_sda
/tmp/web_format_dev_sdb

(it also outputs /tmp/scsi.log).

Would someone mind running /usr/sbin/write_hd_info on a dns-323 that is clean (in the sense that it is not prompting for reformatting) and let me know what if any /tmp files are created and what the return value (echo $?) is returned?

Thanks

OK - I was able to answer my own question  - (see: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic. … 272#p22272)
Seems like the behavior is the same on both a "normal" system and on one that asks for reformatting.

However, the routine hd_magic_num always runs on login on the system that ask for reformatting but does not run on login on a normal system.
