Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Here is a funpackage that installs a rebuilt linux-2.6.12.6 kernel with built in usb-storage and some helpful kernel modules (e.g., nfsd).
It is installed just like any other fun_plug package. It includes the associated modules along with the appropriate modules.dep and the needed directory etc/modprob.d to get modprobe working.
It works well with the script for running fun_plug and reloading the root file system from a usb drive (http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t3203-setu … -root.html)

Oops must be too big or something (though under 2MB) since the attachment doesn't seem to be showing up -- though there is no warning or message saying it didn't work...

I hadn't seen that previous post of yours about the usb located ffp reloading.
With the possibility to load a new kernel (with nfsd working, yeah!...), it looks very promising to me, so if you succeed in making it available somewhere, I will be interested to test this.
