2 copies of smbd -D running???

I noticed that I often (always?) have 2 copies of smbd running.
Does anybody else have this?
If so why?

Thanks

Re: 2 copies of smbd -D running???

I believe samba spawns separate processes for each client connection, so the number will grow and shrink based on client usage of the server.

Re: 2 copies of smbd -D running???

Sorry for this thread -- it does seem to be normal behavior.
Smb spawns two processes. If you kill one off, the other reappears. The number of processes seems to be independent of the number of mounts.

When a user does an smb mount the ownership of that second process temporarily shifts to the user before shifting back to root.
Or this is at least how it seems to work both on the dns-323 and my regular unix box.

Multiple users doesn't seem to increase the number of daemons beyond 2 on the dns-323.
