Can't rename recently copied files

Hi there,

I just copied some folders with WMA audio files from my PC (running Vista Home Pro) to my CH3SNAS. Now I can't rename one of the files. It always returns to the old name without any error message. I can rename other files. Okay, now I tried it one more time. The "THe" in the file name wouldn't change to "The". Then I put an underscore somewhere in the file name, and suddenly renaming worked. This was not the first time this problem occurred. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Can't rename recently copied files

The windows environment recognized "THe" and "The" as the same, so it will not rename the file when those are changed.  Just like in windows, you can specify "the" in a file name and the file "ThE" will exectute (or whatever you were doing to it).  In contrast, Unix (LINUX) based filesystems recognize each character as case specific, and even on some systems as color specific.  Essentially, you were using windows to try and make a case specific change on a Linux system, but Window did not make the change because it does not support it.

Re: Can't rename recently copied files

Rename "THe file.wma" to "xxx file.wma"
then rename "xxx file.wma" to "The file.wma"

Re: Can't rename recently copied files

Okay, that's quite easy to understand. Thanks for the explanation!
