Hi:
I went to turn on some music this morning on my DNS 323... and iTunes could not find the music. I went to the directory, nothing at all is in there.
I have NOT done anything I know of...
Windows reports a 686 GB drive (750 G) and 419 Available- so I am hoping it is there, just "invisible." I went to the D-Link manager and it reports:
HARD DRIVE INFO :
Total Drive(s): 2
Volume Name: Volume_1
Total Hard Drive Capacity: 737329 MB
Used Space: 287105 MB
Unused Space: 450223 MB
Volume Name: Volume_2
Total Hard Drive Capacity: 737329 MB
Used Space: 433588 MB
Unused Space: 303740 MB
Volume_1 Is the one I am not seeing any data on. Volume_2 (also a 750G drive) is fine.
So- and very slowly please!- what can I do to hopefully recover this?
I am sure you will need more info- just ask, I will get it.

First, using windows, remove the map from the drive. Next, remap the drive. Now go into the map and look to see if the data is there.
Do you have ffp installed, or telnet access to the unit? If so, telnet in and look in the directory. This eliminates Windows and SAMBA.
Don't you now wish you had made that backup...?

Thanks bq041.
Gonna take this slow- how do I "remove the map"? I see it in my Network Places and in "Networked Drives" in My Computer Do I just delete it? (I do not want to Delete w/o making sure that is right!)
I do NOT have ffp or telnet- just a straight rookie install using it as a straight NAS. I have a telnet client, can I use that, or does the NAS have to be previously set up for that?
OK, I THINK I know where the problem came from. We had a short power outage last night- like 1/10th a second- just a blink. Bet that is the cause!
FWIW, it is NOT seen from a Vista, XP and iMac machine...
RE Backing up... Yep! Lesson learned. I have a LOT of it B/U on another drive, but not all of it.

Well, I got gutsy! I turned the NAS off, and restarted it. My files are back.
Needless to say, it is backing up now!
Thanks for the help!

Have you read up on the forum about the iTunes server issues? You may want to. I do not use it, so I don't see all the threads, but from what I have gathered, it is broken and causes strange system problems.
