Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

Hello,

Hope somebody can help me on this issue, I have a Tvix 6500a at home and there is a possibility to watch movies stored on an external Hard Drive; in my case my movies are stored on my DNS-323.
This would be a fantastic opportunity for me to watch my MKV movies not read with the PS3.

In the manual of the Tvix they are talking about 2 types of shares :

-NFS (netshare via an application you need to install on a windows based system)
-SMB (which should be compatible with the DNS-323)

Manual : ftp://ftp.dvico.com/Manual/TViX/M6500/T … kGuide.pdf     (see Page 11)
Faq : http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/faq/Default.a … ;SCATID=18 (does not help too much)

When I am trying to setup the connexion to the DNS-323, this is not working.
I would appreciate if somebody could give me a hand on that, thx

much appreciated

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

It looks like I have the possibility to use NFS on the DNS-323, I found the package on the website of Fonz

http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0. … .1.0-4.tgz

I will try to install and set it up by myself, hope this is a peace of cake.

nfs-utils won't work on the dns-323.
Read the docs. http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp#nfs_ne … ile_system

So the other option would be the Samba share, what would you suggest ?

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

I have TVIX6500, and DNS323 net connected by SMB.
It's necessary create a folder tvixhd1 or tvixhd2 or tvixhd3 or tvixhd4 on DNS323.
On TVIX set IP of DNS323 and a server name tvixhd1 or similar which has been created on DNS.
DNS323 must have network access for ALL to this folder.

Thx Maverick for your feedback, could you tell me more about the quality of the transfer, is there any lag when you are reading vob files ? They are saying on the manual that the Samba share is much slower than NFS
thx a mill

You still didn't read. Is my English that bad? Use unfs3.

Ok Fonz, sorry it must be my english because I understood that I could not use NFS at all.
This is great. Thx for that

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

I have 100 mb network. Transfer speed by Samba in it is quite enough for viewing avi, vob and even some mkv files without the stutter. HD video files mkv or m2ts files with large mbps have problems. I prefer watch it from TVIX.
NFS is faster thаn Samba. But DNS232 doesn't support it by default.
It is one of numerous wishes for FW 1.07 on DLINK USA forum.

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

Thx Maverick,

Regarding to the remark of Fonz, did you try the second NFS server called UNFS3 with the DNS-323 ?
I have a wifi connection so I hope UNFS3 will work fine. Otherwise, you still have the option to install a linux kernel on the DNS-323 in order to have a proper NFS server.

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

Bodbod,
you don't have to give access to ALL, neither create any folders on DNS323. Modify your config file: backup DNS configuration, change security from SHARE to USER, and upload config. Works perfectly with Dvico, smb and standard user (tvixhd1/tvixhd1).

Ok, sounds good, didn't have time to try yesterday, I was at my MBA courses after work but I will definitly do it tonight, this will simplify my life instead of trying to install transmission etc...
Thx to all for the support.

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

I have run the command and the unfs3 server is starting well, I have edited the "export" file created by the application and here is the code below :

Code:

/mnt/HD_a2/Movies 192.168.1.206/32(rw,no_root_squash)
/mnt/HD_b2 192.168.1.206/32(rw,no_root_squash)

I think the syntax in not too bad and the Tvix 6500a connect to the Dns-323 but nothing is listed...

I have 3 questions :

- What is the issue ? the HDD1 is in free access, i should at least see something. The HDD2 is protected and only one user can access to it (thing which i can understand : the Tvix can t go on it) - can i delete the line in the code relating to HD_b2 ?
- supposing that it works, does it share the sub directories (under videos in my example) or do i need to create a line for each sub ?
- I have tried to CHMOD +X the service unfsd.sh dans ffp/start and nothing is happening, does not add the execution to it... Why ?

PS : the Tvix has the fixed IP : 192.168.1.206 (I imagine you understood it...)

Thx

can somebody show me his export file just to compare the code ?
Much appreciated

Why? Have you tried with the default?

UNFS3 lacks a few functions. Looks like it's incompatible with your tvix.

Re: Tvix 6500a - How to set up the SMB share on the DNS-323 ?

I dont think so fonz as some people seem to be able to list and play the content of a folder shared under the unfs3, that would be my first step, then I would be interested in browsing the subdirectories.
I need first to list...

I have rechecked my config file from the export file and I have this :

Code:

/mnt/HD_a2 192.168.1.205/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)
/mnt/HD_b2 192.168.1.205/24(rw,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)

I have taken care to edit it with an Hexa editor soft in order to avoid the `M at the end of the first line.

Then on the Tvix, the Ip is well 192.168.1.205 and the shared name is the following one : "/mnt/HD_a2" for the first one and "/mnt/HD_b2" for the second

I can connect to the nfs share but i still can't list. did somebody have encountered this issue ?
Some people can make it working if i understand correctly what people say here : read the thread

Thx for your assistance
