Hi,
Has anyone got Windows Media Player 11 working as a UPNP client in Vista using the 1.05 UPNP firmware at all?
I just can not get it to work!!!!!
Opening explorer and clicking on Network I am able to see two icons representing the NAS. One is a straight network device, the other is a something to do with the UPNP. Right clicking on the UPNP icon, I had the option to install, which I done and I had to use the vista driver from the DLink site. It installed with no problems and the folder icon changed to a DNS323 icon.
I go into WMP11, Select Library/Media Sharing and enable "Find media that others are sharing", click OK. And nothing happens?
Any ideas on how I can fix this problem would be really appreciated :-)
Btw I can do a straight drive map, and in WMP11 add the drive/dir to "Add Folders to Be Monitored". That works, but I am more interested in getting the UPNP server working.
Thanks
Robert

I have covered this of in another thread - but for thread completeness here it is for this thread....
Got a dissapointing response from DLink Australia regarding the issue.
"Currently the only supported devices for the AVUPNP module is the D-Link DSM range and also the Playstation 3. It is also unknown if or when Vista will be supported under AVUPNP."
I wonder if its a Vista issue or a dns 323 issue? Would Twonky fix it?

I have Twonky installed on my DNS323 and am able to browse by artist/album/etc, and play media from it using WMP 11 in Vista.
And before someone tries and says it doesn't work, Windows Media Player 11 in XP doesn't work as a UPnP *client*, and so can't browse Twonky or any other UPnP server ... :-)
(Would you be better off just pointing Media Player at a writable media share rather than a UPnP server so that it can automatically update tags with downloaded info and ratings?)

Thanks sjmac for that.
I have been discussing this topic in another thread also http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t2397-1.05 … ralia.html and tonight I am going to give MediaTomb a whirl as it is free. If this doesn't work then Twonky it will be :-)

Hi,
I am still trying to get WMP 11 on Vista to work as a UPNP client but still can not get it to work
Since last time I have changed my DNS 323 UPNP server to MediaTomb and this is working 100% with my PS3. But I am still not able to get WMP11 working. When I click on the Explorer/Network icon I can see an Icon that says MediaTomb - Double Clicking on this icon takes me to WMP11 but that is it. Once in WMP 11 I have no visibility of MediaTomb at all, it is like it doesnt exist.
I would appreciate any help on this - has anyone got MediaTomb and WMP11 working?
Cheers

I am having the same problem, I could not get WMP 11 on Vista to work as a UPNP client, MediaTomb is working Ok. and I have the same behavior indicated by rx2.
Any help will be appreciated !
Thanks

I'm running MediaTomb with WMP11 without a problem. If the Vista or any other firewall is running you'll need to ensure WMP11 is added to the exclude list.
