Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.
You are not logged in.
I have two PC's and the DNS-323 connected to one router.
One xp machine working great, no issues.
One vista home premium machine which is giving me a headache.
I know a lot of people have had issues with vista but I need advice on my specific problem.
I don't have any modifications to the DNS. (funplug etc)
FW 1.05.
Raid 1.
I can see the DNS through windows explorer and have mapped Volume_1 for convenient access.
I can see folders on the DNS but if I try to open a folder that has individual files it takes forever and then either denies me permission or crashes windows explorer.
Web access also times out
Easy search can see the DNS but mapping a drive from it didn't work, I was able to map the drive from explorer.
Attempted fixes:
Disabled windows firewall
ANY help much appreciated.
All I want to do from the vista machine is read and write files.

A couple of things.
1) Do you have any virus or adware software running on the Vista Machine? Those are known to give the same problems.
2) Did you setup a login and password for the share on the DNS? If you did, did you choose the "Connect using a defferent login name" when mapping the drive? If you did not, unmap the drive, then remap the drive using this feature. Vista has a problem with mapping using authentication unless done this way.
3) Are you connecting using the DNS' IP address (192.168......) or using the host name (dns323, etc...)? Since you network probobably does not have a dns or WINS server, then you need to use the IP address, or make an entry in the hosts and lmhosts files on the Vista maching.
4) If you connect to the device through windows explorer, it is most likely not via the ip address and see #3 above.

Thanks bq041 for the info.
1) AVG and windows defender running
disabled these and same problem occurs.
2)no users or groups have been made on the DNS, at the moment it's basically at defult sttings but with a static IP. The router has also been set to assign the same IP to each item (vista, XP, DNS) all the time.
I mapped the drive in explorer with a right click 'map network drive' option.
3)on the XP machine I can acces the DNS web page by typing in the IP or name in Firefox browser. This does not work on the vista machine. It just takes forever and times out.
4)I have tried accessing the drive via the 'Network' branch in explorer. I can see the XP machine and the DNS. I can browse the DNS until I get to a folder that has files then it hangs.

Can't say for sure but this may be related to the default setting of Vista's Lm Compatibility Level. Refer to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodte … x?mfr=true , http://dns323.kood.org/information:known_issues and http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vist … 670498.htm for deail.

Hey, Thanks a million!!
I'll look into those options and get back with the outcome.

Have you had any luck with those options? I'm experiencing the same problem with accessing from Vista. Have tried all the suggestions on this forum and have contacted D-Link Support in the US and UK but no joy.
