I found a way to bypass this SSL problem : with stunnel.
The drawback is that you need to install optware + stunnel package. It's quite simple though and it works fine.
I can now grab with SSL support.
hey nickotar
i tried also to setup stunnel, which seemed to work
i wanted to use it to post (ypost or newspost) to NG
however it only worked for small files (~ a few kb) but not with larger files
please let me know how you did your setup & compilation
here is how i did it:

I only installed stunnel and nzbget. For stunnel I've installed the optware package. No need to compile anything that way.
I can grab as much as I want through stunnel.
To investigate your problem, have you checked the stunnel log file ? You should see all the openings and closings of connections and the data volume which has been transmitted through each connection.
To enable log file, you must have the "output" parameter enabled in stunnel.conf. For example :
output = /mnt/HD_a2/usenet/stunnel/stunnel.log

Thanks for the stunnel recommendation via optware, works like a charm. However, would dearly love a "native" version that can do SSL without outside help...
