Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

hi ppl
I followed the howto on wiki,
I up'ed
fun_plug to my /Volume_1/
set chmod 777 on the file, rebootet.
What sould happen when its rebootet ?
I made lnx_bin in Volume_1/ then I put utelnetd and utelnetd.startup
sould fun_plug run utelnetd.startup ? in that dir ?
I tryed rebooting, and telnetting to port 23 but no luck ..

I am also having this same difficulty.
All of the files are in there at the base directory.
Firmware: 1.03
Formatted: RAID1
Edit: I even made sure to save the fun_plug file in Unix (LF) line break format. Here is my full fun_plug:
# # Minimal fun_plug, only enables telnet # # Requires: /mnt/HD_a2/starttelnet.sh # /mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/busybox3 # /mnt/HD_a2/lnx_bin/utelnetd # # # Uncomment next line if you want "proof of concept". # A filem dmesg.out will be located on \\NAS\HDD_1 or # \\NAS\Volume_1 depnding on firmware version. # # dmesg > /mnt/HD_a2/dmesg.out # # Start the telnet deamon # /mnt/HD_a2/starttelnet.sh
Should "HD_a2" be changed to something else on account of my firmware version?

My ./lnx_bin/ directory was chmodded to 777 but the files in it were not.
Um, this is embarrassing. I seem to be able to make a connection now, but my telnet window is just blank, I'm still missing something as I cannot execute commands within it. Can someone please point me in the correct direction to getting a prompt?
That would be absolutely great.
anders: Did you get yours working? That was frustrating.
It should be noted that the link here:
http://dns323.kood.org/howto:telnet
Linking to this file:

Saying that it was provided by KRH:
http://dns323.kood.org/forum/profile.php?id=47
Contains a virus called: Win32/RemoteAdmin.NetCat application
So don't run that exe in the main directory included with the download.
Can anyone help me?

NetCat's not a virus. It's an extremely useful networking tool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netcat
Your virus scanner detects it because it can be used to get remote access to your machine. In this case, you're totally alright to run it.

I seem to be working through these problems on my own but I'm posting the answers here in the hope it will be useful to someone else.
The reason I wasn't getting a prompt when I was authenticating to telnet is that I was connecting via SSH protocol, I neglected to see and check the little option that said "telnet".
