nrpe server for ch3snas/dns323?

has anyone used nagios nrpe server yet?

I've tried to install nrpe_2.6-1_arm.ipk  (with optware)

nrpe -c /opt/etc/nrpe.cfg -d

terminates without an errormessage.
the configfile is present at that location and is left default.

an strace shows, the child terminates just after it forks and then the parent exits.

ideas? anyone?

Re: nrpe server for ch3snas/dns323?

found the solution in /var/log/messages

Code:

Dec 3 22:40:07 CH3SNAS daemon.notice nrpe[22287]: Starting up daemon
Dec 3 22:40:07 CH3SNAS daemon.err nrpe[22287]: Warning: Could not get group entry for 'nobody'
Dec 3 22:40:07 CH3SNAS daemon.err nrpe[22287]: Warning: Could not set effective GID=-1
Dec 3 22:40:07 CH3SNAS daemon.err nrpe[22287]: Warning: Possibly root user failed dropping privileges with initgroups()
Dec 3 22:40:07 CH3SNAS daemon.err nrpe[22287]: Error: NRPE daemon cannot be run as user/group root!

now the rest is obvious.
