Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Unable to install fun_plug

Hi all,

After several attempts it seems that fun_plug just won't install on my DNS-323.

Setup:
1x750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1.
DNS-323 flashed to 1.05 firmware.
I'm using OSX Leopard, btw.
FTP is enabled

Steps:
1) Download the 0.5 fun_plug.sh and fun_plug.tgz files to local machine
2) Open a terminal and FTP both files to smb://<NAS>/Volume_1
3) chmod 777 fun_plug.sh and fun_plug.tgz
4) chmod +x fun_plug.sh
5) Reboot DNS-323 (via web interface)

Results:
1) Device boots, I can mount Volume_1 again
2) fun_plug.tgz is NOT extracted
3) I noticed that (with ls -l from FTP) fun_plug.sh seems to have changed all file-permissions to '----------'

*Note I also tried just dragging the files into the the mounted Volume_1 as well, but no go.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

fun_plug.sh

It's fun_plug, not fun_plug.sh

Re: Unable to install fun_plug

I had the same problem when using OS X.  When I downloaded fun_plug, OS X seemed to attach the .sh extension to it and when it copied to the NAS it kept the extension and wouldn't run.

Just rename it through ftp or on your machine and reupload it and it should work.

Re: Unable to install fun_plug

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't noticed that it kept automatically adding the .sh extension.

However, I renamed it and still the tarball is not extracted.
I noticed, however, that now the fun_plug file is locked when I reboot the NAS.
Again, the file permissions get screwed up on reboot:

----------    1 monosacc 502          1778 Dec 26 17:36 fun_plug
-rwxrwxrwx    1 monosacc 502      10801937 Dec 26 17:36 fun_plug.tgz

Not sure what's going on. I even formatted before doing any of this copy stuff.

Re: Unable to install fun_plug

Aha! Actually, I don't have an answer.

BUT, I tried everything with a Windows XP VM that I have and it seemed to extract the tarball.

Very strange.
