Email problem with version 1.06

Hey all,

I just got a DNS-323 two days ago and have been testing it - so far so good.  However, I do have a problem with email notification after having updated the firmware to 1.06.  I set the DNS-323 up at home (outgoing smtp to an sbcglobal isp account) and tested the email notification using firmare version 1.05 and it worked fine.  But after updating yesterday to the newly available 1.06 the test emails all failed.  So it took it in to work to try with our outgoing email server there -- it still didn't work.  So I rolled back to 1.05 and it works fine; reloaded 1.06 and it doesn't work.  Has anyone else upgraded to 1.06 and had email notifications work?  Is there a secret? The "Test result: Failure" message couldn't be more uninformative!

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yes - my email notifications work with 1.05 AND 1.06 with no changes.

Is there a secret - I don't know - there seems to have been some change in how the email system authenticates to the server, try to use anonymous settings if your server will allow it.

My e-mail will work with anonymous sending but not with account based sending.  Account sending had worked in 1.05.

Mine used to work with beta 1.06 (didn't test it again recently though the release and beta versions are the same). It worked fine with my gmail account.

Re: Email problem with version 1.06

Thanks Tilly, for shedding some historical light on the problem.  I've only had the DNS-323 a few days, and just discovered this forum and wiki, and am thankful to everyone here who has been working on these bugs.  D-Link has been a little less helpful to me -- I emailed them and got a response telling me to call -- and I just spent 35 minutes on the phone waiting for someone to answer.  I guess 24/7 service means I should call at 3 am when someone is more likely to answer.

My choices appear to be either to forgo email notification, roll-back to 1.05, or try to work around the bug by trying to understand the conditions under which notification works in 1.06.  To recap the email problem in 1.06:

1. Email notification failure was a known bug in 1.06b65 that apparently hasn't been fixed in the 1.06 USA release.  Pertinent threads are:
http://dns323.kood.org/forum/p24398-Tod … tml#p24398
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic … 9#msg17649

2. Judging from the responses here, for the most part email notification doesn't work, but, tantalizingly, under some conditions it does work.  It may be that it works only for anonymous email server login rather than account login, or that the account information must be in a certain format.

3. My experience is that it doesn't work using two different email servers.  In one the account information is User Name="name@domain.net" and SMTP Server = "smtp.att.yahoo.com" and sender and receiver email addresses are "name@domain.net".  In the other the account information is User Name="name" and SMTP Server = "xx.xx.xx.xx" (ie, a server on a business LAN, I don't need to specify the port, it figures that out itself) and sender and receiver email addresses are "name@domain.com".  For both these cases v1.05 works, but v1.06 does not.  Unfortunately, I don't have an anonymous-login SMTP server to check.

Anyone have any ideas for getting it to work?

Thanks!
