FFP Reloaded onto USB Stick - DNS 323. ffp v0.5 and Firmware v1.06

I'm having issues getting a working DNS 323 with firmware 1.06 to move to a USB stick. As of now I have ffp v0.5 and optware working after a reboot or power cycle. I have an 8gig USB stick with three partititions setup on a Ubuntu PC (sdc1=1gig type 83 for swap, sdc2=2gig type 82 for /ffp, sdc3=remainder of drive for / root). I followed the howto inscrctuions http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp-reloaded and the unit failed to boot. Had to swap drives and start from scratch. I did notice on the old volume_1 that all of the usual linux directories were present - so I'm not sure if the setup.sh script failed to put the kernel on the USB stick, or if FFP reloaded failed.

I am open to suggestions on the best path to get this DNS 323 onto a USB stick. I am guessing that FIRST getting FFP Reloaded working and THEN moving onto getting the kernel and FFP onto the USB Stick.

I am new to the NAS/DNS 323 hacking, but have intermediate understanding of Linux. From the other posts on FFP Reloaded I've seen (only a few) there are issues with certain firmware and busybox versions. Any suggestions on possible issues I might run into?

Finally, would there be an updated tutorial on these questions?

Side note: Any chance of getting fdisk working on the NAS? A "fdisk -l" command shows the partitions, but issuing "fdisk /dev/sdc" (after issuing "insmod usb-storage.ko" and seeing the new device in dmesg) fails to a segmentation fault. I tried getting a current etch binary as suggested and replacing the file. Still no luck.

DNS 323 (Hardware B1, Firmware 1.06). 2x 1.5TB Seagate HDs.
Chroot Debain (Lenny) on USB (not reloaded). Edna server. USB print server. USB drives added to samba share. All init.d scripts in place.
Future projects: FFP reloaded then chroot on B1 hardware.

Re: FFP Reloaded onto USB Stick - DNS 323. ffp v0.5 and Firmware v1.06

Root cause for failed ffp-reloaded to function. Hardware rev is B1. Per http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp-reloaded this version is not supported by vanila kernel.

What hardware has changed and can I cross compile a kernel for this hardware?

Re: FFP Reloaded onto USB Stick - DNS 323. ffp v0.5 and Firmware v1.06

According to this post (http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1787-Sata … 3SNAS.html) I see the B1 has a newer chip that puts the SATA controller and CPU on the same chip. The problem with the vanila kernel is that the SCSI function is loaded as a module (FIG_BLK_DEV_SD=m) versus what is needed (FIG_BLK_DEV_SD=y) per this post (http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t3133-Newl … rking.html). For some reason ONLY on boot the newer B1 fails to load the SCSI/SATA function (explains why the hard drive lights go off after an attempted reload I guess).  After the vanila kernel is booted then it will load as module, go figure.

So, now I know why my version B1 will not work on ffp-reloaded and what I need is a new kernel image (assume all I need is the image as the function is built into the kernel).

Would I be correct in saying if someone could post the same version kenel image found for ffp-reloaded with FIG_BLK_DEV_SD=y set that FFP reloaded would work on my B1? This all assumes I get ffp-reloaded files onto my NAS and replace the kernel image BEFORE rebooting...

Thanks for the help!!

Re: FFP Reloaded onto USB Stick - DNS 323. ffp v0.5 and Firmware v1.06

Some news ever since for ffp reloaded on B1 hardware?
In fact, seems mine is a C1 (supports power recovery).
Idealy I want to have "firmware reloaded" on (firmware filesystem saved on usb partition) to save precious RAM and still use lightweight firmware + ffp combination.
Anyone has succeded in this?
I have read every topics of the kind on the forum without anymore clue...
