I stupidly changed the speed of my network connection from auto to 1000 via the 323 web interface and now can't access my 323 either via web or as mapped drive. It does not show up on Easysearch. I did search the forum but couldn't find anyone who had done a similar stupid thing.
Any help most gratefully received.

What you need is a managed switch (unlikely you have this) or a crossover cable (an ordinary card MIGHT work if the PC auto-senses the MDX - but you need to be lucky - which you arent ! )
1) Assign your PC a static Address (eg 192.168.0.99 or 192.168.1.99 which ever subnet matches the current)
2) Set the speed of your network card to 1gb in network card properties
3) Connect both devices together with crossover cable
4) Use Easy Search to Correct your mistake
5) Set your PC to dhcp again, set the properties of the network card to AUTO
6) Go into the kitchen, slam your face into a blueberry pie and say - I WONT do THAT Again !
If you have a crimping tool, you can make a crossover cable by crossing pairs 1 & 3 and 2 & 6 rest are straight through.

Hold up, whayhayeyey-hay (well at i thought it sounded cool on the Dr Dre's track Next Episode...) have you tried resetting the dns-323 by pressing in the reset at the back?
You will have to reconfig your box again unless you have backed up your config via the web interface, but it wont cost you any data.

Mny thanks to GreenGiant and index monkey. I went the Greengiant route as I fancied the pie finale and felt that I deserved to have to do more than just press a button. In the end we only had cold rhubarb crumble, but any port in a storm. Anyhoo it worked and now I am clever rather than stupid, until of course I decide once again not to heed the warnings that appear on my screen from time to time!
I shall now back-up the config for future use.

As a rule of thumb always set your gig interfaces to auto.
Back in the day (peering over the field gate / sucking on a pipe), it was best practice to 'hard code' the speed and duplex to 100 FULL to avoid the dreaded 100 half duplex problem and the collisions from hell but alas 1000gb half duplex does not exist, so we dont have that problem anymore.
