I want to put a Torrent client on it because I don't like the 1 come with it on the Firmware 1.06 and I want to put a MediaServer on to for my xbox 360. it have 1. a MediaServer come on the DNS-323 Firmware 1.06 but when I try to Watch something the video will play but when the video is playing sometimes the xbox 360 will stop the video and say error can't not play video or something like that.

so I want to know is a way to easy hack to do all of this useimg a USB memory stick. like the programs is on the USB memory stick and I only need to put the USB memory stick in the back of the DNS-323 and turn on the DNS-323 it will boot the hack off the USB memory stick and run the programs off the USB memory stick because i don't want to install the hack DNS-323 and harm it:)

Introduction
UNetbootin allows for the installation of various Linux/BSD distributions to a partition or USB drive, so it's no different from a standard install, only it doesn't need a CD. It can create a dual-boot install, or replace the existing OS entirely.
Requirements
Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista, or Linux, or a USB Drive. If you are having trouble with the Linux version, try the Windows version, it usually works better.
A broadband internet connection to download the distribution packages (unless installing from pre-downloaded media, see below)
Spare hard drive space to install the OS in (varies depending on distribution)

UNetbootin can install to your local hard disk or make a bootable liveUSB drive. It can also load floppy/hard disk images, or kernel/initrds, or (some) ISO (CD image) files, for installing other distributions.

I just went through the fun_plug setup today, so I'll take a stab at helping out here...
There is no need for you to load a Linux distribution using the program you mentioned. The DNS-323 is already running a pretty complete Linux system. You've clearly read a little about fun_plug; all that fun_plug does is add some capabilities to the existing Linux system, and it therefore is the safest and easiest way to "hack" the box. You will have to learn some basic Linux commands.
The DNS-323 does not support USB disks/flask drives out of the box (although you can add that functionality after loading fun_plug). So there is no way to do what you're describing with a USB drive. You want to use the standard procedure for installing fun_plug, aka "ffp," described on the dns323.info wiki. Short version:
1. Set up a telnet client; I recommend PuTTY -- http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ (I assume you're on Windows)
2. Download these two files

and drop them in the "Volume 1" folder on your DNS-323.
Restart the box using the web interface. Then fire up PuTTY. Put in the IP address of your DNS-323 and connect; you should get a command prompt.
From there you will want to install the Transmission bittorrent client. This forum post by KyleK, the fellow who generously provides builds of Transmission for the DNS-323, gives you the instructions to install Transmission.

Once Transmission is running, you can access it via your web browser, as described in KyleK's thread.
The ffp package already comes with Mediatomb, a uPNP media server, so you just activate that by saying
chmod a+x /ffp/start/mediatomb.sh /ffp/start/mediatomb.sh start
I haven't messed with Mediatomb yet, so you will need to search around to find out whether you need to edit any configuration files, where to place your media files, etc.
