Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.
You are not logged in.
I moved this here from my original post because I realize its not as related to that post as I thought.
Problem: can't enter into telnet. I try and I get a momentary window which then closes.
Goal: can I just delete it all and start over? Is it easier to fix?
What I did:
(1) updated the 323 to 1.06 from DLink yesterday.
(2) installed fun_plug 0.5 with Telnet. I had to use volume_2. I checked and the fun_plug.tgz deleted and was replaced with an fft folder and fft log file. I have since checked this and realized that all, including telnetd.sh and rsyncd.sh are "inactive". I did not know this was relevant and continued to the next step.
(3) using Telnet with PuTTY, I changed the root password.
(4) using SSH with PuTTY, I "activated" SSH with: "chmod a+x /ffp/start/sshd.sh" and "sh /ffp/start/sshd.sh start"
(5) then I deactivated Telnet on SSH : "chmod -x /ffp/start/telnetd.sh"
During one of my restarts, I accessed the 323 configuration page and reset it to factory default. I did this thinking it would now be visible on my XBox360, one of my goals.
Now when I log into SSH, I try "root" and no password works.
Any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Marshall.

Retracing my steps, I realized I used directions from nas-tweaks.net from Uli and PeterH that I found on http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp . The link was under the DNS323 heading and I thought this should work. I am thinking though, that this is the source of my issues.

Try reactivating your Telnet server by adding "chmod a+x /ffp/start/telnetd.sh" to your fun_plug script. Then reboot your DNS-323, and that command will reactivate telnet when it runs fun_plug on boot. Shouldn't matter too much where you put it in the script... anywhere before the section that calls fun_plug.init.
Don't forget to remove that command, if you want to deactivate telnet after sorting out your ssh issues.

First, thanks for responding!!
So a quick question, when I modify fun_plug script without Telnet or SSH, I need to use a Linux editor , correct?
If so, any recommendations on editors (simplicity and free being top of my list).
(I may answer my own question here but figured I'd throw out the questions as I read/research more)
Thanks again for anyone and everyone's time.

Telnet working like a charm. Was able to add Twonky!
