Can I ask what improvements Firefly will bring over the built-in iTunes server?
From reading around on here it seems to be:
- ability to rate songs
- easier to add custom playlists
These are nice but my real problem with the built in iTunes server is refresh time, I have only 820 ALAC songs on it so far and it takes nearly an hour to update it's db if I add new songs or have to restart the DNS323. Anyone getting better performance from Firefly?
Thanks

You can achieve better performance under firefly by adjusting the scan_type parameter. e.g. set it to 0. Then my firefly scans >10000 mp3s in under 2 min. I'm not sure, but maybe you can change this parameter in the installed version too.

Thanks dude. I got telnet working and tried setting that parameter on the existing iTunes server. Looks like it gets overwritten on bootup though, and is lost. Shame.
Firefly is going to be installed now, am really looking forward to it, the features sound great.

Update:
Firstly I was wrong above about the scan_type parameter being overwritten with the existing iTunes server. But regardless, it makes no difference.
So this evening I turned off the built-in iTunes server and installed Firefly. Wow. It rocks.
You can configure the name of the server that displays in iTunes, which is neat
The scan time for my library has come down from 45 minutes to less than three minutes
When pointed at the Firefly server the iTunes client has much more functionality - it even remembers to display the browser (Apple-B) at the top of the screen if you turn it on.
And this is not even using all the really clever features like FLAC support and transcoding...
If anyone else is in the same situation as me - disappointed with the iTunes server functionality of their DNS-323, I can seriously recommend installing Firefly. Well worth the effort

Dear Parsec,
Thank you for confirming something I am very interested in setting up. I've downloaded and installed fun_plug, however, I'm having a little difficulty finding the steps for downloading and installing firefly to replace and improve the iTunes server. Would you be willing to lend some direction?
Thanks,
