DNS-323 won't stay mounted on Leopard

I'm using a DNS-323 with firmware 1.0.6 in a hard wired environment. I'm backing up from my Mac Pro, running 10.5.6, using Time Machine to a sparse bundle.

After a few hours, the volume disappears from the list of mounted volumes in the Finder, and TM stops working. I can get it going again by rebooting the DNS-323 from its web interface (which still works fine), then going into it from the Finder. If I do not reboot the DNS-323, I can't get into it by using "Connect to Server" as smb://NAS/Volume_1.

Any suggestions on how to keep it from unmounting, or have have it automatically remount?

Re: DNS-323 won't stay mounted on Leopard

I have noticed that this can happen when the NAS is mounted by it's name instead of ip-adress.
You can also try to change the ip from the NAS from dhcp to static.
This helped in my windows network

I noticed this too. For me it seemed to became much much better when enabling NFS in funplug.

Re: DNS-323 won't stay mounted on Leopard

I have tried both mounting by ip address and changing from dhcp to static. Neither made any difference.

I haven't tried NFS yet, or AFP which was another idea. However, I wonder if this could be a problem that originates on the DNS-323? Once my Mac can no longer see it, the only way to get it back is to reboot the DNS-323.

More on this...

It's not Time Machine related. The DNS-323 can be properly mounted and usable. I wait a while and it becomes inaccessable. While it still shows up in the finder, attempting to use it gets "Connection Failed".

Rebooting the device gets it working again.

Even more on this...

The connection get dropped after 30 minutes. This nice, round number sure looks like a setting somewhere. But where?

On the device, I have the following settings:
Config Inactivity Timer: 10     (Minutes)
Download Schedule Inactivity Timer:10     (Minutes)
Turn off Hard Drives: After 5 minutes

Re: DNS-323 won't stay mounted on Leopard

I have the exact same issue when using firmware 1.06, i had to downgrade to 1.05 to make it work again. I'm not sure the cause, but when the connection to my mac would drop, my windows box couldnt access it either. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Re: DNS-323 won't stay mounted on Leopard

I think I have a solution: I disabled the UPnP AV Server (Under the Advanced tab). Since I did this, it has been working perfectly.

Re: DNS-323 won't stay mounted on Leopard

yeah I've seen this issue too.  Shame I need the UPnP AV Server to be running so I can stream stuff to my PS3.  Hopefully the next firmware fix will solve this.
