HELP. DNS-323 crashed.

I have huge problem.

After black-out this morning, my dns-323 is offline. when I press power button. The button keep flashing (suppose goes to solid after finish booting). After talking to dlink suck tech support and determine the dns-323 is defected. They will send me new one. but I have to request RMA thru internet. Okay here is my question.

I have 2 same hard disk setup as raid 1.

1. Once I got new dns-323, once I put back hard disks to new dns-323. am I going to lost all files on that hard disk. It seems like I remember dns-323 always ask you format your HD when you set your raid. Is there any way to get around that?

2. Should I mount them individually? Can raid 1 disk able to be mounted individually?

3. My last questions is if dlink is so sensitive with power outage. what is best way to prevent. even I can buy UPS. but still only can keep running 5 min. It won't be able to auto shut-down.

Thanks for help

Paul

Re: HELP. DNS-323 crashed.

First - the DNS-323 is not particularly sensitive to power failures (and I speak from experience) - you just caught a bad break.
Second - the DNS-323, with firmware 1.06, supports UPS monitoring through the USB port, so you can shutdown safely in case of an extended outage.
Third - based on what D-Link says - the disk configuration is stored on the disks, so you can move the disks to the replacement unit without losing data - I have not personally verified this.

Last but by no means least - you can connect one of your RAID1 drives to a Windows system with ext2ifs loaded and get access to the data.  I would suggest you do this and backup the data (if you don't have a backup already) before proceeding.
