1.04 to 1.06: Will it reformat?

Will my disks be reformatted when I update from fw 1.04 to 1.06?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 1.04 to 1.06: Will it reformat?

I went from 1.03 to 1.06 and it didn't need to reformat. All files were still there.

I had backed up all my stuff so I decided to reformat anyway to get a fresh start.

Re: 1.04 to 1.06: Will it reformat?

Going from 1.03 to 1.06 and 1.04 to 1.06 are actually different things - there was a change in the partition structure between 1.03 & 1.04, as well as the introduction of Unicode, and if you upgrade from 1.03 to anything later and do not format, you will have trouble with certain features, if you don't use those features, you may never see the problem - you can upgrade from 1.04 to 1.06 without having to reformat

The best approach is to look at the change lists and the instructions on the support web page where you download the update - they will tell you whether or not a format is required - and if a format is required the unit will not, with any of the existing firmware versions, format your disks without first prompting you and waiting for your approval - click skip to skip, or next to format.
