Firmware 1.06 restoring data from one bay to another

Hi all,

I have lurked around here using the forums to get the more-than-a-little-amazing fun plug working and now I have a question I can't find the answer to.

Currently I am running firmware 1.03 and would like to upgrade to 1.06.

The way I use my DNS323 is a little different to "normal". I have a hard drive in one bay (A) permenantly. Once a month or so I slot my 'backup' drive in to bay (B) and sync the data from A->B thus giving me a offsite backup.

I realise that as part of the upgrade to 1.06 a format of the drives is recommended. What I would like to do is:
1. Sync the data
2. Format A
3. Sync B->A (restore the backup)
4. Format B
5. Sync A->B (backup on a newly formatted drive)

From reading a few of the firmware upgrade related posts is seems there can be some issues with running older format drives in an updated DNS323 but my lack of knowledge prevents me from working out if this will cause me any problems.

Can someone either give me confidence this will work or, alternativly, warn me off this idea :-)

Thanks in advance.
