Hi All,
Been using the DNS-323 for some time, and mainly on XP and it's been great. Just upgraded to Vista and now we are finding that we can't sync (using Offline files) with Vista to the Network drive (DNS-323)
I have tried a few other DNS-323 all have the same issue and have been using Firmware 1.04 and 1.05. Same issues.
The issues;
When syncing with offline files you generally get error with any file (but mainly been testing with Office 2007 files), and the error is either;
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
or
a file changed on this computer while offline has been deleted
Has anyone else had this issue with Vista?
Thanks for the help

I'm successfully using the file sync option of Vista Business with my DNS323.
I know this doesn't help resolve your issue however it does prove that what you're attempting to do is possible.

If it is any consolation, I have never had any luck using offline sync on any version of windows. This is not specific to the DNS, as I gave up on it years before I got my first one. You might want to consider using Alway Sync. I found out about it because the company I work for uses it, and we are a very large international conglomerate. It is free for personal use. http://allwaysync.com/

Firmware 1.05
You might be onto something. I found an article that describe a similar problem with an earlier version of Samba (3.0.25). See http://www.nabble.com/Vista-Sync-(offli … 91893.html for detail.

Which version of Samba do you have installed?

Hi,
Having simular issues.
I have a Vista Business laptop which is connected to a wired network together with a DNS-323 (firmware 1.04 funplug 0.5), Maxtor MSSII+, network printers, switch, Win 98SE & XP Pro. This also happens if I use the wireless option as well.
Situation:
I have various documents marked as "always available offline" and when I sync, after a few minutes I get "The specified network name is no longer available"
I repeat the sync and get the same result usually after a few minutes running and subsequent repeats yeild the same message. After a while I can no longer access the DNS-323 shares from the Vista machine but I can from the others (Win 98 & XP). If I bypass the local cache by going to \\DLINK-1A9F9C$NoCsc$ I can access the share and all the files within it, but if I go to \\DLINK-1A9F9C I am still offline.
When in the faulty condition I CAN
1. Access the DNS-323 configuration page.
2. Telnet into the DNS-323.
3. Access the DNS-323 from other operating systems
4. Access the DNS-323 from Vista using \\DLINK-1A9F9C$NoCsc$
Solutions tried:
1. I telnet into the DNS-323 & execute an smb restart.
2. Log into setup page of DNS-323 & save settings with no change to settings.
3. Shut down the DNS-323 & restart. Then perform 1 & 2 again.
4. Performed fixes on http://dns323.kood.org/information:known_issues "Windows Vista Can't Access Shares After A While"
None of these has provided a fix.
Temporary solution:
Reboot Vista, which works for a while and then after syncing again I am back to the same issue.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi.
Hope I might tag on this thread as I am also having some small problems with Vista Sync. While the sync generally works, particularly with my Vista Desktop, it frequently (but not always and I can't figure in which cases) reports a conflict with files synced to the DNS-323. The conflict reports that the file has been changed in both locations and presents the files with identical timestamps / sizes in both locations. I have tried every option (including igore) to resolve the conflict without success, it continue to appear as a conflict.
I'm using firmware 1.05, FFP 0.5, but don't know how to determine which version of Samba...
Would any of the tweaks in the BetterSamba section of the Wiki be likely to improve the situation? Or am I wrong to think it has to do with Samba?
with thanks

I had the same issue as this and contacted Dlink support. You need to go into Network Access and share permissions to:
Oplocks -> Yes
Map Archive -> No
