Hello all,
Newbie with a strange problem. I had the DNS-323 since Christmas but set it up for the first time yesterday. I've been waiting for 500GB HDD prices to drop and finally got one. So I installed it last night and the DNS will not stay on for more than a few seconds. I had the HDD installed in the left slot and when I moved over to the right slot, everything worked fine. I was able to get into it and format the HDD and everything is running.
If running a single HDD configuration, do you have to have it installed in any particular slot? I'm concerned that when I do decide to add a second HDD and come to find out that the DNS is defective, the warranty might be expired.
Thanks in advance!

No, either slot should not matter for a single disk configuration. When you had it in the left slot did the lights on the front change? also have you tried to update the firmware yet to 1.03 and see if you are experiencing same thing.

Actually - whilst a single disk should work in any slot, it would be preferrable to have it in the right slot - slot0.
When there is a single disk, it is considered Volume_1 regardless of it's position, when there are two disks, the right slot will be Volume_1 and the left slot Volume_2 - if you are not aware of this, adding a second disk to the right slot causes the drive mappings to be incorrect and your data appears to have been lost.
If your disk won't work in both slots I'd suggest calling tech support and have the unit replaced.
