After format, 14 GB used ... why ??

Hi everyone,
i have just purchased the DNS-323 and i buyed a 1 TB WD caviar green HD.
After the format phase, i have seen that the used space is not 0 Kb (or some MB for system files) but 14 GB yikes
How is possible? Can i clean the drive and reduce the used space?
Thank you !!
Bye

One possibility is reserved space for the root user.  A standard format will always reserve a portion of the drive for the root user's use.  Unless this is overriddden (the DNS may or may not), it will show as used space.

If you have fun_plug installed, you can telnet to your
DNS-323 and look at the disk partitions sizes, with

# fdisk -l /dev/sda
# fdisk -l /dev/sdb

(NOTE: -l is a lowercase L not a 1)

partition 2 is the main storage partition,
the other partitions are where the "missing"
14GB are being allocated

simple math actually
500/7  = 1000/14

you are seeing x% being reserved by the DNS-323 for whatever catalogs, directories, config, etc.  it keeps.
