Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hi,
I am a complete novice when it comes to customising the 323. I have finally decided to change to using Twonkyvision and have read up on what to do. The problem is, each article i read on fun_plug has different code and its all a bit greek to me.
I need someone to give me quite a lot of help with this - i.e. treat me as a 6 year old and give me a step by step guide. Hopefully one of your will have pity on me and help!!
I need to:
Create a fun_plug to enable Telnet?????????
This will then apparently allow Twonkyvision to install?
Thanks in advance - I hope!

I generally followed the wiki.
I flashed to firmware 1.03.
I downloaded the files from KRH. I used Notepad ++ to edit the fun_plug file. (You can get Notepad ++ at download.com)
I enabled the FTP server on the DNS-323 using port 21.
I used a windows GUI-based FTP client software (WSFTP) to copy the fun_plug file to the root directory of Volume_1 and created the directory for the telnet files and copied them too. I did not have to mess with file permissions because the FTP client copied the files with the proper permissions.
I rebooted the DNS-323 unit.
I installed puTTY as a windows telnet client and successfully connected to the DNS box.
To install Twonkymedia, download and extract the zip file on your windows machine and run NASSetup.exe and follow the directions.
To configure Twonky. Use your browser and and connect to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9000 x's are the IP address of your DNS box.

Snake,
I'll see if I can setup an FTP location for you and others to use.

Thank you Blutox!
I was about to ship this thing back (and the DMS-320 that it came with as a package deal from Newegg) when I found this wiki/forum. With the KRH files setup was a breeze, even for a callow linux newbie such as myself.
I just installed twonkymedia and the difference is night and day. The video playback actually works now and mp3 files appear in track order as G-d intended.
