Slimserver

Hi, many thanks to those involved for the telnetd instructions and busybox executables. They have been invaluable.

I am now in the process of getting Slimserver to work on the DSM-G600.

As the DSM-G600 has a similar platform to the PPC Linkstation, I am making use of the following link:

http://linkstationwiki.net/index.php?ti … limDevices

Note that the Linkstation Wiki hosts some pre-built development tools. I don't know much about toolchains and stuff, but I am now able to compile executables using the Linkstation Wiki tools.

It's a case of so far, so good at the moment. I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: Slimserver

DSM-G600 uses uclibc powerpc linux, but as far as I know they don't.

You might get more out messing around with emdebian slind.

http://www.emdebian.org/slind/target/di … c-powerpc/

Or we can even find something useful from embedded gentoo
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/embedded/

Also we can find something useful from DS101G+ bootstrap

DSM-G600 - NetBSD hdd-boot - 80GB Samsung SP0802N
NSA-220 - Gentoo armv5tel 20110121 hdd-boot - 2x 2TB WD WD20EADS

Re: Slimserver

Many thanks for the reply. By chroot-ing into a libc environment, it works, but running SlimServer leaves just a few K of memory free when using only basic functionality. As a proof of concept, it's OK, but I now need to look at trimming down memory usage, and I think that building a uclibc version of perl and the required perl modules should help a tiny bit.

Re: Slimserver

slimserver is actually a perl script, so there's no compiled binary as such. For me, the difficult bit has been getting perl to work. Now, thanks to Gentoo, I have a uclibc version of perl. However, in the meantime, I've had a few idiotic-use-of-fdisk-related disasters, so I've got a fair way to go to get to a uclibc version of slimserver.
