Latest version: 1.51

I've had to roll back to 1.50...
the reason is: on my DNS-323, funplug 0.5, fresh 1.51 installed, web gui is broken. I can use Opera no more to add torrent to download ("Open" button does nothing), it works in IE though. In addition, list of downloading torrents is empty (in IE and opera).

no problems at all with 1.50.

Any ideas, please?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi,

KyleK wrote:

I'd say that's normal. Remember, Transmission does have no form of caching (either for read or write operations), so for every packet sent and received the drive is accessed. The faster your connection is and the more torrents you have open, the more I/O operations are performed, which puts some form of strain on the device.

This was the first thing I've noticed when migrated from MLDonkey to Transmission - high HDD usage. HDDs are spinning all the time and they're spinning very loud. There was no such problem in MLDonkey. But I hope that developers of transmission will fix this or.... MLDonkey developers will make their product more compatible with private trackers wink

Wrong place, my friend. Please report this to the Transmission guys at http://www.transmissionbt.com.
Best would be to reopen this ticket and say that it breaks Opera compatibility.

Edit: Also, you could just copy the /ffp/share/transmission folder from the 1.50 package after you've installed 1.51. I don't think anything has changed interface-wise (I'm not 100% sure though).

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I have a 60 peer limit and with 1 torrent I am seeing 50-80% CPU usage. 50 up / 120 down right now. Something isn't right. I could have 8 torrents going with an older version and no problems.

Nothing I can do about it, I'm afraid. I don't develop, I just package.

You have to report this to the devs, but they need some form of data they can work with, profiling information in this case. Sad thing is, there's no profiler that works on the NAS, so you'pretty much out of luck.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I've restructured the first post and removed some old cruft that shouldn't matter anymore. Now if people actually read it some of the posts here would be redundant smile

Also, if a moderator reads this: Would it be possible to remove the version number from the thread title? Releases come fast and v1.3 is already ancient history smile

why don't create a new post? just put a link to this one on it and we're done.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Drive Degradation.

I was trying to transfer some files over today over fast Ethernet. When I first got this NAS I could max it out at about 10MB/sec. However, now I only get ~2.5MB/sec.

This isn't a network problem, because if I transfer from the other partion, it goes much faster.

I've been using no more than 3 torrents at a time, at a fairly slow speed (100kB/sec). Is it possible that all those writes have hurt my harddrive? They drives are less than a month old. Hitachi.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I just got my DND-323 today and got through setting up fonz's fun_plug, but then was unable to download Transmission and curl

Are there any mirrors on the DNS-323 tgz's for them?

Thanks

Hi all,

rm /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/blocklists/*
echo "Refreshing transmission blocklist."
mv [blocklist archive directory]/level1.txt /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/blocklists/
echo "Transmission blocklist refreshed."

Be sure to modify it to reflect your system. Save it then make the script executable via chmod +x blocklist_update_script.
Run the script as often as you need. I'm not sure if there is a need to restart transmission so that it would pickup the changes.

Hope this helps. big_smile

I just tried that script out, and I get this set of messages running it on my DND-323

Code:

/mnt/HD_a2 # sh blocklist_updater.sh
Removed previous blocklist archive.
Connecting to download.m0k.org (88.191.20.206:80)

It looks like the 'wget' part of the script, which attempts to download a file called 'level1.gz', is failing.  Double check that you entered the URL correctly.  What happens if you just run the wget command alone?

Code:

wget http://download.m0k.org/transmission/files/level1.gz

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

If I run each command alone, everything works perfect, but if I try and run the script, every command fails, even if there was a valid operation happening (i.e. the rm doesn't remove, the gunzip doesn't gunzip)

Here is my current script

Code:

rm blocklists/*
echo "Removed previous blocklist archive."
wget http://download.m0k.org/transmission/files/level1.gz -P blocklists
echo "Downloaded current blocklist."
gunzip -c blocklists/level1.gz > blocklists/level1.txt
echo "Expanded blocklist archive."
rm /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/blocklists/*
echo "Refreshing transmission blocklist."
mv blocklists/level1.txt /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/blocklists/
echo "Transmission blocklist refreshed."

I created the text file in windows, copied it over and chmod'ed it to executable

Hmm ... what happens if you add a 'pwd' (print working directory) command as the first line of your script?  Another thought that comes to mind is line endings*, since you created the file in Windows.  Try creating the script using a command line text editor like vi or nano.

* See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newline if you want the details about text file line endings on different systems.

it's german, but the links and commands are pretty clear

My German is pretty limited, but between that and Google Translate,  I did one part of the German text that might be worth mentioning.  It says that the spellcheck is disabled by default because there is no dictionary included.  Just in case you were planning to write your thesis using nano on your NAS.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Can someone help me with this. I had a Transmission v1.22 installed on my 323 (and it worked great) but I was stupid and wanted to upgrade to Transmission v1.51. I did everything step by step as is on first post in this topic. But when im trying to execute this command:

Code:

transmission-daemon -f -g /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon -t -u <username> -v <password> -a 127.0.0.1,191.168.*.*

all I get is this:

Code:

root@dlink-EF0F3C:/mnt/HD_a2# transmission-daemon -f -g /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission
-daemon -t -u my_username -v my_password -a 127.0.0.1,191.168.*.*

and execution stops and do nothing. I can of course do Ctrl+C and program goes to:

But this is it. I cant get in to WEB-GUI becouse I get answer like this:

Code:

401: Unauthorized

Unauthorized IP Address.

Either disable the IP address whitelist or add your address to it.

If you're editing settings.json, see the 'rpc-whitelist' and 'rpc-whitelist-enabled' entries.

If you're still using ACLs, use a whitelist instead. See the transmission-daemon manpage for details.

Also Clutch is not workin anymore.

What should I do?

It looks like you forgot to quit Transmission 1.22 before installing the new version. In any way, some other application is using the port. You can change that with transmission-remote.

I cant get in to WEB-GUI because I get answer like this [...]

Your router's IP is 192.168.1.1, so all local computers will have IP addresses in the rage 192.168.1.*
Your initial startup line for Transmission is incorrect, because the -a parameter has 191.168.*.* instead.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Thank you KyleK! I corrected my mistakes in startup line and I can now open WEB-GUI nad Transmission Remote GUI to connect a deamon. This is good progress!

But some things I don't understand. Why do I need to execute startup line command via telnet and keep it idling every time I want to use the Transmission? I'm asking becouse if I don't - I can't open Transmission.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

No, you don't have to do that every time, only the first time. Once you've done that, use the startup script /ffp/start/transmission.sh to start and/or stop Transmission.
