I've been using the DNS323 for a while now, still on FW 1.03, 2x 250Gb RAID. I would like to move to bigger disks (1T). Is it absolutely necessary to upgrade Firmware for managing 2x Sata2 1T disks (1.06 is available)? Or can I stay on 1.3? Any risk of loosing data while upgrading?
Thanks for your comments

not really any risk in updating. I would recommend upgrading to the newer firmware.

Thanks for the (very) fast advice. I confirm that upgrading from 1.03 to 1.06 is (for the moment) harmless. No issue at first sight.
Thanks again

The hard disk partition scheme is different between FWv1.03 and FWv1.06,
you may experience some issues if your hard disks do not have the partitions
which the v.106 firmware code expects.
Just make sure to format your bigger disks (1T) with the FWv1.06 to reduce
any potential partition scheme issues.

thanks. For the moment, I still have a couple of "prescan" processes that run, and maintain disk activity. I guess they will stop one day????

upgrade to 1.06 apparently "switched on" the UpPNPAV server, which led to this "prescan" issue (more than 20hrs of blinking leds and disk running...). I switched it off and rebooted, these unwanted processes now disappeared...
