I am looking for my issue on this page:
http://dns323.kood.org/information:know … s?s=issues
and I can't find anyting similar.
My problem only happens when ussing Office 2007, on any Operating System.
When saving a file from Office 2007 (.doc, .docx, .htm, etc) to the NAS (Z:\Malosa\Docs\doc1.doc for example) I can't later access this file from a FTP client (ftp://192.168.1.125/Docs/doc1.doc) because it sais I don't have permissions. But I can perfectly save or reload this file from Office and I can also access this file from Windows.
If I save from Office 2007 to the Desktop, and I later move it manually to the NAS I can perfecty access from the FTP client.
In short: file saved from Office 2007 to the NAS, file I can't access when using FTP. But I can access this file from Windows perfectly (My PC -> Z: -> Docs) and I can move, edit or delete this file. But when trying to access using FTP: access denied.
I am the only one who has this problem? I have this NAS since a year ago and I have been moving by hand from the Desktop to the NAS because I couldn't find any solution. But only with Office 2007. Office 2003 works perfectly, and also the rest of the programs that save files directly on the NAS (Photoshop, Ilustrator, Notepad, etc).
SOLVED in D-Link official firmware 1.08.

Did you exclude that somehow office still has the file open?

Hi
I think that this is an issue with the 'Trust Centre' settings in Office 2007.
In Word 2007 go to Word Options - Trust Centre - Trust Centre Settings
You should see a list of 'Trusted Locations'
I would add your NAS as a trusted location and also tick the box at the bottom to allow trusted locations on your network.
I had a similar problem saving to network drives at work and the above solved it. I hope this helps.
Cheers

Yes, of course. I'm talking about creating a document in Word and two days later in the University trying to open it by FTP and receive access denied message. A year ago I tried everthing I could, and I realized it only happened with Office 2007 programs, but at the end I though there was a bug in the firmware.

I have received the mesage that due to security reasons, the path I have specified cannot be used as a trusted location. It doesn't matter if I put the Z:\ root or Z:\Malosa\ or Z:\Malosa\docs\. I'm not allowed to add any folder inside Z:\ or \\192.168.1.125\. But I can add any folder on C:\, for example.
PS: I also ticked to allow trusted locations on my network.
PS2: Office lets me choose any path on my network EXCEPT the DNS-323. It lets me choose my mother's PC or my laptop PC.

Hi
Regarding adding to trusted location. Apparently if you use the server name instead of mapped drive letter or the IP it can be added.
e.g. (if you given your DNS-323 a network name of 'NAS')
\\NAS\Malosa\docs\
I cannot verify this as I have just read it, it might be worth trying though.
I wish you luck in getting your problem sorted.
Cheers

First of all, thanks for you time.
I did, OK, all NAS added to trusted files. I saved a file in Z:\Malosa\hello.docx
But when I tried to open it from the FTP client, same error. No error when trying to open (or copy) the rest of the files in the folder.
I also saved it as hello.doc, hello.pdf and hello.htm and the same error when using FTP.

Well, as far as I can see there are only 3 possibilities. The file is open and locked, the file has a different owner or the file has different attributes as the other files.
You excluded the first possibility, so it has to be one of the other two. Because the file is created in Windows, you should be able to see the difference by looking at the properties of the files in Explorer.

Yes, they have different permissions, but why?
Hello1.docx, a file saved from Word 2007 directly to the NAS has Owner permisions (read, write, ejec), but does not have any Group permissions and does not have any "All users" permisions.
Hello2.docx, a file saved from Word 2007 to the desktop and later moved manually to the NAS has ALL permisions: Owner, Group and All Users.
Hello3.txt, a file saved from the Notepad directy to the NAS has also ALL permisions.
Hello1.docx fails when I try to copy it (FTP). Hello2.docx and Hello3.txt work.
So when saving from office 2007 to NAS some permissions dissapear. But only with Office 2007 programs.
And I have to say more: before buying the D-Link NAS I had a LaCie NAS and it worked perfectly with Office 2007. So when I changed to D-Link DNS-323 I though it was a bug in the firmware.

Googling on 'Samba "office 2007" ' gives many hits which reveal that there is an incompatibility issue between office 2007 and samba. When you can change your smb.conf file maybe you can use this workaround:
http://archives.free.net.ph/message/200 … f4.en.html , search for 'Windows Vista, Office 2007, and Offline Files'

And what do I have to do?
Wait for a D-Link update that fixes the problem? (In the case that the firmware includes Samba)
Try to update Samba by myself? In this case, there's no a newer updated version? (Newer than Samba 3.0.25rc3)
Buying other NAS? For example: http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS207+/photo.php Only if the problem has no solution. Because I'm tired of saving my files to the desktop.

Have you seen this? And Fonz has an ffp samba package, but I have no idea how it interacts with the firmware one.

@Malosa, you could also try setting the option
map acl inherit = no
in the [global] section of smb.conf and restarting samba

Hi
I have now encountered this same issue. Did you ever find a solution for it?
I have tried editing the smb.conf file but when I restart the NAS the values are reset to defaults (even if I also change smb.default).
Any more information, ideas or solutions to this problem welcomed!
Thanks

Hi
Thanks for pointing me to the script - I have added this to my funplug and can now successfully edit the smb.conf.
I have added Map ACl inherit = no to the global config but I still cannot open Word docs that were created with 2007.
(I have also tried = yes).
Will I be able to open documents that were created previously with Word 2007....or will I only be be able to open files that have been saved after I have changed the smb.conf?
I will do some more testing but would like to hear if anyone has had any luck with this issue.
Thanks for the help so far.

I had similar issues using vista ultimate x64 with my DNS-323 and office 2007 documents. What seemed to finally work for me was to telnet into the 323 and manually chmod the files in question to 777. I can now open them in office and save them back to the 323 without problems. I've not tried rebooting my box or the nas to see if the fix sticks, but it at least works on a temporary basis...

At least it could be solved by the new firmware 1.08 (BETA).
