Vista doesn't shut down after installing DNS-323 x64 driver

I did a clean install of vista 64 bit and after installing the dns-323 vista64 driver the computer won't restart. When I try to shut down or restart it says "shutting down" infinetly but doesn't actually restart. I have to power down with the power button. When Vista comes back up it tells me windows did not shut down properly and I have the option to start normally or in safe mode etc. Every time I restart, I need to use the remap tool in order to see the dns-323 drives.
This problem doesn't start until I install the dns-323 driver.
Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution?
Thanks

Since this is a clean install - try removing the drivers and if that doesn't work, reinstall Vista but this time don't install the DNS-323 drivers - they are not required to access the DNS-323 and are not the cause of your having to "remap" the drives at every startup.

Re: Vista doesn't shut down after installing DNS-323 x64 driver

Thanks for answering. I reinstalled vista without the dns-323 drivers. I was able to access the drive fine the first time after restart and the computer shuts down and restarts fine. Now when it starts up I get a notification in the system tray about unable to reconnect to one or more network devices. After everything loads up a get a "found new hardware" notice about windows needing to install drivers for the d-link network enclosure. It give me 3 options 1. have windows search(recommended) 2. ask me again later 3. Don't show this message again - device will not function until you install the driver.

Doing the auto search for drivers doesn't return any results and I am hesitant to point it to the location of the drivers since I don't want the restart problem again.
Also, I search for the drive with the search /map utility I can find it and it works fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Take option 3 - don't show this message again.

Is there any way to make it recognize the drive without me having to map it with the utility?

open file explorer. click network and your dns-323 should be displayed. click dns-323 and the two disks should be displayed. right-click each one of them and map it.

Re: Vista doesn't shut down after installing DNS-323 x64 driver

Thanks for all your help.. Here is the solution that's working for me:
1. I clicked don't show me this message again
2. Then mapped the drive using the dlink cd utility from there I opened Network, selected the dlink drive, clicked map drive, designated the drive letter, and selected the checkbox for always logon on startup. I wasn't able to map the drive through vista unless I had already mapped it with the dlink tool.
My system now recognizes the drive automatically on start up , all problems are fixed and everything is running perfectly!

Hi guys!

"reinstall Vista". You got to be kidding, right? So there is no other way? Remember me to thank those d-link guys...

Did you try "uninstalling" the drivers?

Hey fordem,

Yes, it did work uninstalling - so far at least. I just got so tired when I read the proposed solution I just had to comment. Now I feel better. Should stay on those pills my doctor prescribed.

Thanks.
